Sheltering
Under my bed-covers
Engulfed by a shadowy moon
Awake too soon
Mind’s out of tune
Sheltering
Under my verandah roof
Hiding from the morning sky
Where you won’t see me cringe and cry
Wings have been clipped, I cannot fly
Sheltering
Under my courtyard tree
Avoiding the winter sun
No !Ā not another rerun
White gowns, again undone
Sheltering
Beyond my distant horizon
Bypassing the grey clouds above
Nurturing my foxgloves
Surviving the touch of her love

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

This is beautiful Ivor, to find shelter from such a storm. And it’s a great song too. These lines stuck with me “No !Ā not another rerun / White gowns, again undone”. All the best my friend š

We all feel unsheltered at times…especially during those frightening life-storms.
Continue sheltering yourself in those places that give you peace and security.
And know that we care and we are sheltering you in our love!
Can you rest this weekend? I hope so!
OH, the song! I love Sia! She has always brought me joy in her songs and in her voice!
(((HUGS)))
PS…I am still awaiting my latest oncology report…been two weeks since I had the testing. I’m feeling a bit unmoored at times. So, trying to keep my mind on other things.

I’ll be ok Carolyn. Sia was originally a South Australian girl, but now I think she’s based in London.. I’m a bit disappointed, I’ve been trying so hard to get back, but don’t worry I’ll be “back”. I’m feeling ok, so that’s a good sign šš

I’m home now and taking it easy, … yes I’m feeling a bit down, but I’m physically feeling ok, so that’s a good thing Sue…. nothing to report for at least a week…. but overall it’s all good, except I’m not allowed to drive again !!

I’m glad you are feeling a little better. I understand perfectly how this episode would concern you and it’s bound to take its toll on your well being, it’s natural that you would feel down in the dumps. Is the driving a temporary occurrence? š

A beautifully written poem, Ivor! Yes, we all need to feel sheltered and loved but, at the same time, feel our wings unclipped and free to take off and keep flying through the uncertainties of our limited lives where we often revisit our pasts through bittersweet blurred memories, whether consciously or unconsciously. We want to hold onto some of those memories even if they make us cry, while other memories we wish they would vanish as they clip our wings too hard.
I think your marvelous poem is so relatable to not just your personal situation but to any experience of loss any of us must have gone and will go through in life. It is difficult for all of us to learn to let go, yet we must. I think of all the beloved I lost in my life and I get these bittersweet memories, a bit blurred, but still remembering especially the best of them.
The song is beautiful too. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful posts. It is always a pleasure to come back to your blog when I have a bit of time.
