G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Your poem is so timely and it touched my heart, Ivor.
Your photo, your poem, and the song are a wonderful trio.
I got to see Don McLean in concert. π And I got to get his autographs and talk to him. I took my old American Pie record album for him to sign. He thought it cool that I had the album with me. π
That song you chose of his….Empty Chair… is one of my favs. π

Those are the good times Beth, and there’s a sense of fulfilment that you’ve created something special for yourself, and there’s a real bonus if readers appreciate the words too !!
Ivor, lovely poem! Your imagery is vivid, beautiful, sad, and written with great empathy. As always, the photo and music are well-chosen to go with the poem. I hadn’t heard Dan Mclean’s songs for a long time and had forgotten how mellow and sweet they are. Take care, Cheryl
Don McLean was a great songwriter. And thank you Cheryl, this was piece that flowed out quickly without hardly any editing…. and the words felt good… ππ€ππ
Yes… I’m sure that’s why I write these sort of poems, they’re all about the reality of the situation, and about the real anxieties we are all feeling… there’s no hiding from what’s happening, and I’m not going to put my head in the sand and say nothing… yes, I feel better after the process… ππ€ππ
Such a poignant poem

It’s freezing here in Geelong today, and wet… and with that Geelong Calendar picture above my desk …they combine to prompt my poem

Yes, Woolly just told me it was a wet and windy day in Geelong. Similar weather here in Yorkshire, wet and windy but it least it’s not freezing. π

My freind Terry Fielding, the singer, loves Don McLean, and sings his songs brilliantly… Here’s Terry singing his Australian No. 1 hit, “The Whale”

Your poem says it all and the video is just wonderfully sad! Not enough life jackets for sure! Many are slipping of the boat!

Doesn’t the writing of it help with the processing of it? Beautiful.
