An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Broken Shoes
My poem “Broken Shoes”, was totally inspired by Kate’s (CalmKate) thought provoking poem “Witness” you can ‘view her original post’, by clicking on this link >>https://aroused.blog/2020/11/11/witness/
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

I remember reading a book from the Library during the late 1980’s on Domestic Violence. In which was reported a study that showed that both men and women abused their partners at nearly the same rate. When the study was published all three authors received death threats from the feminists.
I also came into possession of a study conducted of the 75 largest counties in the USA that clearly showed that men and women killed their partners at near the same rate as well.
That pattern held up until 911 was installed nationwide and Senator Joe Biden wrote the Violence Against Women Act.
Prior to VAWA when police responded to an incident of DV if the male had bruises and his female partner didn’t the police would arrest her and charge her with Domestic Violence. I actually witnessed this on one of the popular reality police shows during that time when a case from Florida was shown on tv.
After VAWA at the insistence of the feminists only men were arrested and charged with DV on a universal basis throughout the USA.
And after 911 became widely available the false accusations of DV shot through the roof resulting in the arrest and prosecution of thousands of innocent men.
Right on, Ivor! This is so well-expressed and so needed! We need more good men like you in the world who are willing to speak out on this horrifying issue, and try to get people’s attention so things can get better! Thank you!!!
Kate’s poem/post was brilliant and so important and helpful!
I think, too, of Mich and her words and work to help abused women!
I appreciate all 3 of you!!!
(((HUGS)))
PS…One of my fav authors is Neil Gaiman. Thank you for sharing that video. His poem/that video always gets me teary-eyed. I hope some of your readers took the time to listen/watch that video.
It’s a great video, and Amanda narrates Neil’s excellent poem so well… Kate’s posts seem to stir my poetic vibes…. and of course Mich’s writings are superb… ((Hugs))
Thank you, Ivor, for weighing in against harassment and abuse! Abusing others is certainly not something to brag about! I liked your very direct and well-written poem. It is great that you added a male perspective to Kate’s heartfelt poem. β€
Absolutely! Well-written and well said, Ivor π

There are always two parties at play in an abusive relationship: the abuser, and the enabler, and, sometimes a third: the bystander.

Yes indeed, and we the bystanders to have a say ππ

The words must keep following, otherwise attitudes won’t change…

The comparison to discarded old shoes is quite apt. Sad, but accurate
