The “Flower’s” Curtain is Closing

Today (Wednesday), the “Corpse Plant’s” Flower had begun wilting and closing up. I think the next stage of the flower’s demise will be the collapse/folding over of the central spike (the Spadix). Yes! … I’m coming back tomorrow.

Because there were no queues today! we had time to explore and discovered some interesting displays in the Botanical Gardens.

The “Corpse” Flower is One Day Old

The Corpse Plant flower will start deteriorating soon, so we enthusiastically (maybe Frankie was not so keen!) went to the “Gardens” for another close-up view today, and we’ll probably come back tomorrow. The phenomenal event has captured my imagination and I will not miss the next stage of the ‘flower’s short existence …

Geelong’s Botanical Gardens Greenhouse/Conservatory

Built in the 1960s, the Conservatory houses a collection of weird and wonderful plants from around the world. The displays change constantly, so there is always something new to see.

The ‘Mango Tree’ and the ‘Jacobean Lily’ were impressive

The Lily Pond was the centrepiece of the Conservatory

The Greenhouse/Conservatory was full of intriguing and colourful plants.

Celtica, Irish Dance Show

Celtica, a high-octane modern Irish Dance show, will tour the stages across Australia in 2024. It stars an elite troupe of dancers, including stars of Lord of the Dance and Celtic Illusion, and on Tuesday evening they were in Geelong. My friend, Barbara, and I were fortunate enough to be part of a ‘packed house’.

Day 4, Gina Comes to Geelong

After our early morning walkies, Frankie, Gina, and I went to the Box Office Cafe for a scrumptious breakfast.

My Bowl of Porridge, Fruit, and nuts … Frankie enjoyed his toast and coffee

Frankie and his friend Bella, eyeing off Gina’s scrambled eggs.

Then we drove to the nearby Geelong Waterfront for another enjoyable walkie …

1.00 pm was approaching and it was time to take Gina to the train station and say a fond goodbye to our gracious and generous guest … until the next time “Gina Comes to Geelong”

Day 3, Gina Comes to Geelong

After enjoying our morning walkies, Gina and I (without Frankie) travelled to Drysdale, where we enjoyed an excellent luncheon/dining experience on board The Q Train, a historic train that travels between Drysdale and Queenscliff.

Thursday evening we attended the Geelong Library’s special presentation of the famous Australian author, “Tim Winton, in conversation with Jock Serong, as they discussed Tim Winton’s new novel, JUICE. [This event was the main reason why Gina had come to Geelong]

Day 2, Gina Comes to Geelong

Early morning walkies, followed by a visit to the historic Fyansford Paper Mills Precinct and a coffee break, then we drove down to Bancoora Beach to enjoy a walk in the warm sun, on the cool golden sand

We had lunch at the Moorabool Valley Chocolate Cafe and then we decided to travel over to the You Yangs National Park

By now it was late afternoon and it was time to go home and get ready for Dinner at the ‘Industrie’ Restaraunt with the Geelong Writers members

Gina Comes to Geelong

Gina, my internet pen friend, from Kaula Lumpur, is here with me in Geelong, to see one of Australia’s best authors, Tim Winton present his new book, “Juice,” at the Geelong Library’s Dome Auditorium on Thursday evening, and we are so looking the event.
In the meantime during Gina’s four-day stay here in Geelong, me and Frankie are her tourist guides …

Creative Geelong Market Day and the Untethered Gallery

Leonardo Da Vinci, 500 Years of Genius

Today, I accompanied my friend Barb to Melbourne’s wonderful Lume Gallery to see the amazingly expansive exhibition of Leonardo Da Vinci’s unique and monumental display of his artistry, creativity, and ingenuity. Definitely, an opportunity that I was not going to miss out on, and I hope my photo/story conveys our fantastic experience of being mesmerized by the “Genius of Da Vinci”
