Last evening I attended a poetry open mic’ event, held by ‘lowercase poetry’. The word theme for night was “A Shadow Of Doubt”. I was invited on stage to read my poem called ‘Finality”, a copy of which I’ve attached here below my Haiku, ‘Recital
Haiku:
Recital
The voiceless man spoke
An old poet recited
His words clear and strong
We will all travel, life’s journey
There’s reality in the end, a concluding count down
Finality occurs, not a shadow of doubt
Sooner or later, we have to retire, and work no more
Old tools are laid to rest, gathering dust
There’s a time, when we have to say goodbye
To that special one’s, sad crying eyes
Suddenly life propels us, to pass our friends lives
The people we knew, dwindle to a few
And beyond the lies, earth slowly dies
We the custodians, failed to see overcast skies
Our belief’s shriveled, inside religious sleeves
The jealous and greedy, are yet to eat their last supper
I hope tomorrow’s future, is better than today’s veiled ways
And yesterday’s trials, become the healing castle’s final say

To my fabulous cousins in Philadelphia (and young Kerri)…. three songs of the ages, by the fantastic Tom Waits, and I think ” Waltzing Matilda” was one of Aunty Madge’s fav’s ….

The Winning Team
I was down and out, at the bottom end of my cellar
But behind every engine’s burnt-out propeller
There needs to be a cohesive working team
To help strengthen an old wingless being
Doctors, diligently searched for the inward source
Nurses, no matter the hour, my dutiful force
In and out of hospital, a worrisome five times
Up and down, like a Jack and Jill nursery rhyme
My Rehab recovery was like Hillary’s interrupted journey
The Therapists never, let it be, and were my district attorney
An enthusiastic group, supported my every step, towards New York
We laughed, we cried, and listened to poetry talk
Therapy music, had to be played loud and clear
Every new hurdle I jumped, they all did cheer
Months and weeks passed, and gradually I lost my inner fears
To all at M.R.C., in my heart, you’ll always be very dear.

Haiku’s: Dead and Alive
Dead
Old cypress tree dies
Driest Autumn recorded
A sign of the times
Alive
My green fernery
Watered garden signature
She lovingly thrives
Ivor Steven (c) 2019
Falls and crawls of energy waning
Glares and stares of eyes opening
Help and kindness of paramedics working
Clangs and chimes of sirens roaring
Awakening from a void of dreams
Visualising my spirit draining
Ins and outs of doorways slamming
Shrieks and shrills of voices screaming
Ups and downs of painfully surviving
Highs and lows of slowly recovering
Awakening from a void of dreams
Realising my life’s gradually healing

Violet Crumble bars
Offerings for my relatives
Souvenir Koala’s
Gifts for the youngsters
There’s many of them
Stubbie holders for the oldies
Still young at heart
A special T-shirt
For a Special person
My poetry collections
Tullawalla is the word
A friendly meeting place

Skyward bound
Away from home ground
No more, of the side-walk mound
Daylight stargazing drowned
Northern clouds to be found
My time, is finally unwound
Hearing new city sounds
Amazing heights to astound
Sights to snoop around
A statue proudly crowned
I’ll be the friendly poet, of little renown
The Waterboys “You In The Sky”. Lyrics
Thou alone which art
You in the sky
I wanna know why clouds come in between you and I
Thou alone which art
You in the sky
I wanna know why clouds come in between you and I
Thou art beautiful
And I am gifted
Within thy precious presence I am lifted
Let me know you
Come in to me
Open up my heart and sing your song right through me
Let me know you
Come in to me
Open up my heart and sing your song right through me
Thou alone which art
You in the sky
I wanna know why clouds come in between you and I

Family, friends and followers
Lend me yours ears
I’ve only been blogging
Not even two years
A medium I did not understand
A venue way exceeding my expectations
A happening beyond my imagination
A journey I lovingly shared
I have enjoyed every unsteady step
What else can I say
I shower you all, “A Thousand Kisses Deep”
And my Nautilus is awash with likes
Fifty Thousand Leagues (likes) Under The Sea
In my ocean full of pleasure and love
I Thank you all
I am not drowning, but resurrected

Below: Rodin’s, Thinker Carl Peverall’s, Minstrel The Cemetery Stone Bench
Stone Arches, High In The Sky
Sitting on this old cemetery bench
Judiciously carved from granite
I’m pondering, like Rodin’s Thinker
Observing God’s arches high in the sky
Supported by tall Gothic columns
Laboriously sculptured stone
Etched by annual rain
Burnt under the ancient sun
Shaped by the winds of time
Dully hued, eleven shades of grey
Smooth rocks from past aeon’s
Millenniums cast in aged sand-stone
History encrusted surfaces
Pillars of society, silently solidified
Entombed witnesses of the painful years
The cold graveyard’s, living pyramids
Monuments to new generations
Life’s statues of our lost souls
Immortality and finality achieved
Beyond a shadow of doubt
Their stoic presence
An eternal epitaph
