Dumping Our Sumps

My Belmont Page Creative Writing Group is held on Thursday’s, and our ‘Thought Prompter’ sentence for this week is ‘Time to put the garbage out.’ and below is my response that I shall be reading to the group tomorrow

Dumping Our Sumps


Our garbage bin is full to the top

And overflowing with filthy slop


Contaminated dirt is spilling onto the tarmacs

Nuclear waste is seeping through the cracks

Dead batteries melt into poisonous wax

As empty aerosol cans add to our air’s death tax

Plastic bags are filled with grubby plastic packs

Eventually resurfacing as our oceans strangulation traps


Where do we dump our polluted fallout?

When will it be time to put the garbage out?

Remember Me?



Yesterday I asked you again

“Did you remember?”

The same request, week after week

“Do you understand?”

How important my books are to me

“Do you actually hear me?”


Tomorrow I shall ask you again

“Did you remember my books?”

The same request, month after month

“Why do you ACT so flippantly?”

Time is dismantling my patience

“Can you stop being nonchalant and ACT responsibly?”


The task is universally acknowledged

“Return what is borrowed”

Exhileration on Wednesday

With the launch of my book

Profound sadness on Thursday

With the funeral of a close mate

Joy and happiness on Friday

With the seventieth birthday party

Of a long time friend

The cycle of life ’til the end

After the Party


I’m wallowing here at my desk 

feeling spent and exhausted 

and I hear the day’s echo’s resounding 

as my pulse rate is pounding 

and like a fish out of water I’m floundering 

flipping, thrashing, and blundering


I’m waiting here, beached and pondering 

what is to become of my words that are slumbering

Today here is another poem, that didn’t make the final list, and was ‘cut’ from my new Book “Tullawalla”… Maybe I thought the poem “Five Shades of Grey” was not substantial enough .. !!


Five Shades of Grey


Daylight turns into night

Ravens scatter in mid-flight

Dark clouds overlay

Five shades of grey

Thor’s hammer roars

His spark of fire, soars

Fiercely a flaming bolt strike’s

Piercing frightened psyches

Leaning Against the Wind

You have to be skillfully quick

To catch sight of the wily wind

Gone, in the flicker of a candle wick

The wind is here and gone in the blink of an eye


A crafter blaster, invisible and streamlined

We stoically lean against the air’s ghostly tricks

And blindly await the haunting to be reassigned
