Under the Weeping Trees (a Limerick)

As many of you know, I am an appointed writer with the Coffee House Writers Magazine in the poetry section, and in the poetry group, we are given a monthly assignment on a different poem format. This month’s poetry classroom topic was to write a ‘Limerick’ … Below is the Limerick I presented for my July Assignment.

Resting here on my knees
Under the tall weeping trees
Waiting for my anxious mother
She’s out looking for my silly brother
He’s randy and went chasing the pretty fillies

“It’s About Time,” Said the Blackbird

A blackbird delivered me a message
via the telegraph line
his advice was direct and clear
“The launch of your new book is way overdue”

Yes! I had to agree
Three months since my book was published
“Until Eyes Hear Sound”
And it’s about time for a “Launch Party”

Subsequently the blackbirds friendly reminder
Prompted me into action
And after some appropriate enquires
I have organised a venue and a date

Officially, the book launch for

Will be at the “Industrie Cafe”

Hi guys. My name is Frankie

I’m a furry Cavoodle
The owner of Ivor
You may know him
He pretends to be a poet

I let him stay at my house
And even allow him to sleep on my bed
He’s bald, so he doesn’t shed hair

Yes, I know
That’s generous and kind of me
Having said that
In a disorganized manner

“I do not own much
I do not owe much
I share what I have
I have hope and love” **

My home is his home
If he takes me for walkies
Three times a day

It’s zero degrees outside
and I’m warm and cozy
lying here in bed
However, there is a pile
of my winter clothes
on the bedroom chair
waiting for me to wear
Frankie gives me his
get up now stare!
wanting his morning fair

for me to embrace
the chilly morning air
and plunge myself
into the filtered sun’s
brittle wintry lair”

That’s What Friends Are For (Cadence Anthology, by Ivor Steven)

“Help!” yelled Billy the Bee
Who was stuck, knee-deep
In the storm’s fallen debris
“I’ll be there as quickly as
my body can shuffle along”
Said Charlie, the concerned caterpillar

“My tiny toes are trapped
and I cannot fly free” Burbled Billy
Charlie sways and cleverly uses his snout
To nudge the broken branches aside
And in a jiffy
Billy was able to wriggle free

A relieved Billy
Blessedly buzzed over Charlie
“Thank you kindly
for your gracious help
my dear friend”
“That’s what friends are for”
Cheered Charlie the caterpillar

Today’s Throwback Friday poem is not on my Website but appears in my book “Tullawalla”, Chapter 6, page 101, and I wrote the original version in October 2019.

Bohemian Lyrics

What we imagine
And what is real
Are not the same deal
Dust, life’s spicks and specks
Are blended inside the earth’s vortex
We are only our solar system’s subjects
And beyond gathering grey clouds
There is, the stars sheltering shroud

Whatever the words, let them roll
Whatever the feelings, let them be our soul
Old lines drawn in the sand
May be erased by forgiving hands
Gaea’s liquid words caress the air we breathe
Capturing chords within the whispering trees

Time deflects in the end
Time rewinds and amends
Love is the world’s unwound relic
