Throwback Friday, No Place Like Home

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘No Place Like Home’ in August 2020, and the poem will be the opening piece in Chapter 7. Memories and Rhymes

No Place Like Home

A sleeping beauty in her nightwear

Pure honesty lived in our home atmosphere

Her truth breathed, the air we shared

Hiding behind white silent doors

They tried to take her from our shores

By nailing her bed to a hospital floor

They heard my stoic voice roar

I told them, they wouldn’t win

“And watch out!! Don’t throw her in

you’ll surely regret your foolish sin

be warned, she’s Circe the Siren”

When I held her sweetness

I believe I touched greatness

And achieved weightlessness

Throwback Friday, Who Hears Me?

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘Who Hears Me’ in February 2021, and the poem will be the opening piece in Chapter 5. Observations, “Until Eyes Hear Sound”

Who Hears Me?

My ears are funnels
But I do not want to hear
The voices

My lips do part
But I do not speak
The words

My knees do bend
But I cannot sit
While I can still stand

My eyes are open
But I do not want to see
My shadow falling

Throwback Friday, Better Late Than Never

Today’s Throwback Friday poem is from October 2019, a time when I was anxious about trying to finish my “Tullawalla” Manuscript before my publisher’s Christmas deadline. Tullawalla was my first serious attempt at compiling a poetry collection, and I was panicking that I would not complete the project in time … I calmly sat myself down and wrote this poem to myself … “What’s all the fuss about, stop worrying, and just do the best you can” …

Better Late, Than Never (Revised)

Dawn’s morning blues

Drowns me in droplets of dew

I slip into yesterday’s shabby shoes

Rundown, from worrying about you

I’m late, and just waking up

Drinking cold tea, from my enamel cup

Quickly I must rush

Only time enough to catch the bus

But I stopped! What’s all the fuss

Soon they’ll be another one

And today, don’t forget to put a cap on

I’ll get there, only thirty minutes later

Relaxed, not hustled and feeling betterer

Throwback Friday, Tomorrow’s Cake

I’m still stuck at home with my friendly ‘covid’ bug, and my Senryu from June 2022 seems to be quite appropriate for today.

Tomorrow’s Cake (a Senryu)

the future tastes like

yesterday’s cake, covered with

venom from today
