Throwback Friday, White Pony, by Ivor Steven

The article I posted on “Go Dog Go Cafe” today >>

I’m very fond of this poem from October 2019, which appears in both of my books, “Tullawalla” (page 149), and “Perceptions” (page 1).

White Pony. (Tullawalla, page 149, and Perceptions, page 1)

If I were to be reincarnated

I am sure I would be a tall white pony

A flashy show jumping horse

Who knows his arduous course

Hurdling coloured bars

And clearing hard brush fences

A swimmer I have always been

So the perilous water hazard

Would be a simple breeze

A shadow passed over with ease

As my reflection in the pond

Magically vanished under my rider’s wand

Turning sharply on the pitch

Nearing the finishing stretch

I see more obstacles ahead

The doubles and triples, I dread

Without fear, forward I bound

Up over and gliding down

My red-haired rider, she’s blushing and proud

Hearing loud applause, we bow to the crowd

A Window Stain (a Tanka)

The Tanka is a relatively new poem format for me and I think “A Window Stain” that I wrote back in January 2021 was my first Tanka.

A Window Stain, (a Tanka)

Evening tears ebb through

the window of last year’s stain

Fear closes the latch

Tonight, the moon is brighter

Today the pane is clearer

Who Will be Left To Grow the New Trees?

This is a piece from August 2019 that I have reworded and given the poem a new Title.

Who will Be Left to Grow the New Trees?

How many Waterloo’s  do we have to see

Before all the battles are lost at sea

How many children, have to cry and flee

Before humanity begins to listen and agree

Our future depends on a new recipe

A blend of peace, harmony, and new trees

Arousing “Itmims”

Today’s poem is one that I wrote while attending a “Writing Circle” meeting, hosted by the talented and gracious, Ali Grimshaw … If you are interested in attending one of her fabulous on-line “Zoom Sessions”, you can visit her site by clicking on this link

Arousing “Itmims”

I hear a thunderous storm

Rumbling above

I see a chromatic sky

Illuminating my yard

I feel my romantic dreams

Arousing my Itmims* spacecraft

There ready and waiting

For time to chime in

My next mysterious rhyme

However

Time hears no commands

And silently resets her sundial’s hands

To reignite dawn’s golden strands

A Sad Winter Flame (A Tanka)

In May this year, I attended an Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop at the Foundry Studio & Gallery. Today’s Poem/Tanka is another piece I wrote from that day, and which I have not posted on my site before now.

A Sad Winter Flame (a Tanka)

Dismayed, how to stop

Leaning against the hard rain

Unseasonal pain

Sodden, a sad winter flame

Downtrodden, a stained Ukraine

A Day At the Market

Today I run a Book Stall at the Pop Up Creatives Market here in Geelong (Newtown), along with the help of my Editor/Publisher, Judy. We didn’t sell many books, unfortunately the rainy day keep the patrons away. However my “Poem, Lucky Dip Bag” proved very popular, and we got to meet and chat with those who stopped by, and number a them opened up the poems and read their ‘lucky’ Tullawalla piece for me, and the smiles on the readers faces made my day …

The Market and my “Lucky Dip Bag”

Some of the other stalls

The stall opposite us. … Me and Judy behind our book stall display.

Overall, we had a very pleasant day at the Market and hopefully, I will be given another chance again soon …

Throwback Friday, Itmims (Ivor’s Time Machine In Micro Space), by Ivor Steven

The article I posted on “Go Dog Go Cafe” today >> https://godoggocafe.com/2022/11/18/throwback-friday-itmims-ivors-time-machine-in-micro-space-by-ivor-steven/

“Itmims” is a poem I wrote in December 2018, when I was hospital, in an ‘Isolation Room’, and Itmims space craft was my imaginative means of escaping confinement.

Itmims (Tullawalla, page 60)

Welcome aboard my bubble ship, Itmims

Come fly with me into the unknown

We shall traverse time and space

Across the borders of level seven

Beyond the boundaries of intelligence

We’ll discover the story of Tullawalla

Capture the heart of a beautiful red-head

Learn about her journey of grace and bravery

Understand the depth of your soul

Show others what happens to the heart

Find your star, your colour, your lost art

Walk deserts in space, swim the Milky-way

Breathe the air I breathe, see what I see

Feel her soft red hair, on your cheek

Step inside my Itmims, sharing love on the high seas
