Writing About – Three – Anthology, 2022

Yes it’s that time of the year … Here is another annual Anthology that my poems have been published in. This is one has been produced and published by the Belmont Page Writers group and superbly edited by our convener Claudia Collins.
Three of my poems were published in this fabulously presented Anthology. They were, “Have We The Backbone?”, “Out There, Right Now”, and “Afloat”

I Am Going To Die

Featured Image Above; ‘Waiting for Rainfall – Winton Wetlands, a painting by Geelong Artist/Poet, Jo Curtain, and the image was this weeks Geelong Writers Inc. Ekphrastic Photo Prompt, that subsequently inspired my ‘morbid’ poem below

I Am Going to Die

I am a fish out of water

Writhing and flopping

In this polluted puddle

Splosh!

Another toxic garbage bag

Squelches by

How did I ever survive

Here, in the wetland’s stagnant cesspools

Now, my rotting sun-burnt scales

Are covered in flies

Swarming!

The flies are sticking to my eyes

Maggots are clogging my gills

I cannot breathe

I hear Mother calling

“There is no need to cry

It’s your time to die”

Splosh!

The hovering vultures

Have begun swooping

Herculean Moon

The Wednesday challenge on Weekly Prompts is; HERCULEAN. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here , and below is my response to the prompt.

Herculean Moon

On a motionless silent night

There.

From beyond the dark evening clouds

The Herculean moon stoically glowed

Upon the forest’s swaying silhouettes

Stealthily shedding enough silvery light

To illuminate the ancient gatehouse

There.

From below the mystical pathway home

Perceptions is Here!

This morning my Publisher/Editor, Judy, delivered a large box full of “Perceptions” books to my front door… and the final product has far exceeded my expectations. I had a few tears of joy run down my face, so I thought the poem “Sogginess Sets In” would be appropriate for my post today.

Standing On the Edge of Time

December is here and the final monthly colour challenge for 2022 at Weekly Prompts is – Pinkish. Please go over and visit their fabulous by clicking >> HERE

Featured Image Above; ‘Weird/Wonderful’, a painting by Geelong Artist Wendy Ratawa, which was this weeks Geelong Writers Inc. Ekphrastic Photo Prompt, that subsequently inspired my colourful poem.

Standing On the Edge of Time

Am I dreaming

Sprawled across Saturn’s rainbow rings

Wishing

I was there

On the edge of Jupiter’s

Multicoloured volcanoes

Observing the chromatic universe

Through my kaleidoscopic eyes

I am here

Standing on the edge of time

Above Tower Hill’s dormant crater

Overlooking a picturesque valley

Of blue lakes and

Multicoloured forests

Throwback Friday, Hidden Irritations, by Ivor Steven

A short poem I wrote in October 2019, which I posted this morning on “Go Dog Go Cafe” >> http://godoggocafe.com/2022/12/02/throwback-friday-hidden-irritations-by-ivor-steven/

Hidden Irritations (Revised)

Splinters under the skin

Little wounds so thin

Do inwardly sting

And the crying children sing

From under a comforting wing

“Mom, please remove this thing”

Faerie Runnels, is in AnoMaly Street, Issue II, Published by Geelong Writers Inc.

List night Geelong Writers Inc. launched the 2nd Issue of this year’s AnoMaly Street, Chapbook Publication (Poetry with a difference), and I am honoured to have my piece “Faerie Runnels” selected in this superbly produced journal. It’s always a great thrill for me to have my poems represented in a locally produced and published book. The Below Photo/Scan shows how my poem appears in the book.

“Faeries Runnels”
also appears in new book “Perceptions”(page 41)

No One Stops the Sun From Shining

Again, thank you to Colleen for another one of her thought provoking post’s earlier today. >> https://bikecolleenbrown.wordpress.com/2022/11/30/dependent/ , and my poem here is a instant comment/reply to her wonderful article.

Featured Image Above: a poor attempt at taking a photo of the moon tonight on my iPhone.

No One Stops the Sun From Shining

I do not try to count

The universe’s brightest stars

I do not try to change

The lonely moon’s moody faces

I do not interfere or stop

The trees from growing

And I’ll never try to stop

The sun from shining

I never had cause to question her personality

We accepted our inherent differences

She was delicately soft

And lovingly compassionate

I was resiliently sturdy

And lovingly loyal

And I will not stop

The sun from shining
