I Do Not Have a Dress?
I must confess Forgetfulness Is sleeping in my nest
Thoughts are in a mess Running at two abreast Without knowing my quest
I am looking for my address In the pocket of my vest Did I leave it in my dress?
This evening, I am reciting this poem at the ‘lowercase’ open mic night, for their theme, “Ultraviolet”. Also, over at Weekly Prompts, the Wednesday challenge is, Invisibility. and obliquelymy poem nearly fits the prompt … Please visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here.
Swallowed by the Sun (Revised, Oct 2023)
On a fiery hot suburban street Cobblestones are melting the crowd’s feet Bursting blisters, of the ignorant Burning souls, in the innocent Ultraviolet rays are scorching everyone Our world is being swallowed by the sun Oh, what have we humans done
All the rivers are running dry Fish lie on barren land, wanting to die Polar icebergs are often seen gliding by Penguins are moaning without their icy slides And you’ll hear the baby whales cry As the ocean, sadly waves us goodbye Our Angel’s wings are singed and they cannot fly Old Mother Earth is quickly going awry And Father Time is forever asking why

One Day, the Wild Wind Will Stop
We are back from our morning walkies And Frankie is recovering on the lounge suite He’s worn out from the blustery battering By the gales that have been blowing all week
I ask Frankie “When will these wild winter winds stop” “Don’t ask me! You’re the one with the fancy Computer”
Jolted by Frankie’s sarcastic remark, I looked at the weather forecast “Yeah, apparently the windy conditions are going to moderate a little tomorrow” “That’s good. Then I’ll be able to hear you when you call me to come back”
He nods and smiles, recalling his sheepish excuse for wandering off this morning and did not return when I called him. “Never mind Frankie, one day soon, the wild wind will stop” And slyly, he gives me that innocent doggie look!

Twilight Time
Photogenically As the setting sun Folded into the horizon The half-moon shimmered Like a white wave Upon a sapphire ocean
And simultaneously Nature’s adaptable birds Painted winged silhouettes On the chromatic Twilight sky

Below is, the original introduction from my post in August 2020. “Hello dear readers, I’ve been writing this poem over the last three days, and I was struggling to obtain any rhythm between thoughts and words, then I saw a wondrous photo on Derrick Knight’s blog/website this morning, (which is my ‘Featured Image’ above), and his picture of the glorious old oak tree, immediately channeled my thoughts, into that of strength and “resilience“, and from there, my Title was formed, and my words started to become a more cohesive piece of poetry…. Thank you, Derrick, for allowing me to use this beautiful and impressive photo, with my humble little poem.” >> https://derrickjknight.com/
Please Note; “Standing Upright” appears in our book “Perceptions”, a Collaboration of Poems and Photographs from Ivor Steven and Derrick Knight (Nov 2022)
Standing Upright
My heart’s bruised from bygone blood-stones Threaded together by the spirits of old bones And there resting within my aging body’s sway I am shedding soulful droplets on sunny days
The world’s foul winds had blown me off my feet After wobbling down cold and dusty streets Then a modern medicine man came with his young tribe Re-tuning my broken pieces with rhythmical vibes And they declared my heartstrings to be plucky enough To handle tomorrow’s mystery masks and travelers’ handcuffs
