Arctic Winds

I’m winter hibernating,

Inside an Eskimo’s hut.

Feeding only on fish oil,

And frozen blue blood.

My heart’s cold and dormant,

Cowering under a dampened vestment.

Pumping only yesteryears rust,

And icicles of my dust.

My eyes are swollen rocks,

Amidst polarized sockets.

Terrorising all that’s passed,

Like forgotten arctic icebergs.

My veins are hollow crevasses,

Inside a glaciers ice-flow.

Sheering and groaning chasms,

Like my memories deepest fjord.

Ivor Steven.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Every time you surprise me with something new. Would I be correct in assuming that you have old memories that are never forgotten, and are frozen in your mind? I love the art work. That wouldn’t happen to be Philadelphia in America, or is there such a place in Australia? I’m forty miles from the one in America.

    1. Yep, I was nearly going to name the poem Frozen Memories. And Kerri is 40 miles from you. She’s an absolute gem, suffers from SMA, been in a wheelchair all her life. When I’m over, I’ll come and see you, maybe a year or two.

  2. Masterful poetry Ivor, with strong images that flow heavily through the body and leave a lot of sadness. “Frozen memories” would certainly have been good titel, but “arctic winds” is more neutral, so I think the better choice!
