I do wonder,
What’s important in life.
Why’s it so important,
To have someone to talk to,
And a companion too.
Does it matter,
If we remain alone and bare,
And love continues to be unfair.
I do wonder,
What’s important about our pounding hearts.
Why’s it so important,
To have a soulful beat, like a bass drum,
And walk a single path with your loved one.
Who cares,
If we leave a hopeful trail of crumbs,
And the Bowerbirds eat everyone.
And I do wonder,
Why’s love so important.
And I crave for the answer,
Before I’m dormant.
Ivor Steven.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

A singular note on an instrument is beautiful when played well but when it is complimented with another note and creates a harmony returning to the singular note can suits often feel like it is now anticipating a return of harmony

I’ll send you a pun protectant, SPF 40 should work well. And in the future I shall wax lyrical rather than take the easy way out with comical leanings. 😁 I hope!

Haha a friend of mine uses puns but in that way where it might just slightly sound the same it’s a pun! I’m too old for the millennial’s and GenY’s attempts at pun humour haha I’m like a nazi pun officer. It has to be the exact same spelling to be a pun….even though I know the dictionary says otherwise. 🙂
Where’s that SPF40?

Haha! Seems like you don’t need any pun protection after all. That uniform is well starched and looks great on you 🙂

No I haven’t, but it sounds a little offbeat and entertaining so I’m writing it down on my “to do” list for when the Autumn rains start in Vancouver. 🙂 Thanks!

This dude basically had access to confidential documents that included medical reports of hitler and other reports. Basically he and many of the ss officers were in cocaine, methamphetamine and opiates and factories were making them in huge quantities. Seems like the dark lord, his armies may have had addictions the dictator himself was probably in drug induced psychosis! I found it fascinating

I loved the lines about crumbs and the bowerbirds! This read beautifully and sounded like a song – I read it a couple of times I enjoyed it so much. Love the picture too!

I care. I feel like a Bob Dylan song…..how many does it take to care to matter? (I think there are different answers with different reasons…)

You have written such a sad poem again. I can only say That I care! I can not bring a clear tone into your music and I will always have problems to interpret the words correctly, or find the correct words, but I can assure you that I always act with love and that I´m always there for you. If you’re going to leave the hopeful trail of crumbs, I’ll go with you, because there starts a story, which I know.

Thank you Anie, don’t worry, the original was written a long dark cloud ago, This is a rehash of those times, and for me it’s good to revisit the healing times, makes me appreciate where I am now…

The healing times are always good to revisit. They help keep us sane and remember love we shared with another.

Ivor, you’re picking up quite a following. It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. There are so many things I loved about this. You ask many questions, knowing there could be millions of answers. You’re title says it all – What is so important? My answer to that is, everything is important: no matter how small or insignificant. I like the ending, where you use the word dormant, instead of reference to dying or death. It makes a gentle ending. P.S. Don’t forget to check out my new blog, but don’t have a heart attack. I’m following in your footsteps, and writing more serious, and thoughtful work. I’ll still write humor, but I want to branch out a little.

Dear Ivor, love is the most important thing in life because it gives warmth and shows you God’s grace.
You need someone who is very close to you, Someone you accept to exchange thoughts.Otherwise the thoughts revolve only in the circle, and you will only accept the nature of your own thoughts.
Only a trained heart is a good heart. It has to glow, sometimes ache, it must be throb and have a soulful beat. It must live.
And all those who live and love and have a warm good heart and share the thoughts of others will wholeheartedly wish that you do not abandon the hopeful path even if it is stony! And no wonder, most of all your soulmate cares about this!

Thanks Anie, I’ve been alone for a while, and I’m always questioning myself, they’re just thoughts that I write down as a poem. I know I need love, because that’s who I am, and what I yearn for. Thankyou so much for your concerns. Through my writings lately, I’ve felt much love, and have made lots of friends, and it’s a joy to part of the blogging world. and my heart is definitely warmer now. ♡♡

ohhh this sounds so warm and good. Your success in blogging world is indisputable! But also in real world you deserve someone who cares and loves you. I was thinking about my own life, if it is clever to start new at this age! But I decided that you can start new always, you can start with 99 years if you want, because your life can also end with 19, ( altough you started a new life just the day before…..)

yes this is hard Ivor, and for sure, I can not feel what you are feeling, BUT: you have still a long journey left and I think it should be the the last journey and the best. You are wise, now, you will fall in love with a 20year old girl, or? So the chances are not so bad…..

ohh, sorry, this was not very clever verbalized anyway, and then I forgot the “not” before “fall in love”. But forget about the age, not important. Of course a 20 year old woman can also be a good hearted perfect women. I just wanted to say that age can be a advantage, because poeple have had already some lessons of life…..

Your text has a nice melodic flow to it. I am wowed again by the depth of your reflection and the insight of your lines. Your words leave me pondering over love. I don’t know why we so wish for a companion – this one special person. I wish I knew. Just like it is in you, this quest seems to be embedded at my core. No matter how forcefully I will to strive away from its call, it just comes back, again and again, howling at my door. Love seems to be at the heart of everything I do. Everything I feel everything I write. Even when I don’t write about it, it is there.
Perhaps, part of the dilemma may reside in that “one” number restriction. Love is not just one. I believe it is manifolds. There is not just one person embodying love in our lives. There are many people whom we love dearly – family, friends, kind strangers who become dear indispensable friends with time ;).
Still surrounded by a myriad of loves, that one is missing… Its absences even renders the rest of the blessings we otherwise cherish taste bland at times.
Indeed I wonder why…

Thankyou for such an in depth comment. Love, what’s it all about. Such a complex human emotion, that’s there in front of us, with every door we open. But now as I’m aging somewhat, I’m learning that I must love myself more.
