One Day

This is another poem from way before I started blogging. I wrote the words seven years ago. Sincere thanks to Jane of, Janebasilblog, who’s wonderful poem, “Like A Sister” prompted me to post my poem out of my old Archives.

One Day

Not asking you to marry me, or to be my lover.
Nor am I expecting you to be like a kind mother.
You know in your heart, there are no others.
I’m alone during my nights, under the covers.
All I want from you, is to look for no other.
All I need from you, love me like a sister and brother.

She’s fading away, not complaining and no bother.
Her dying life, has given me no time to hover.
One day not so far away, her eyes beneath the clover.
She’ll rest peacefully, and I’ll be crying over and over.
All I want from you, is to hold me while I recover.
All I need from you, love me like a sister and brother.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. love this poem Ivor, for the tenderness and the heartfelt longing. there are days I wish the same, someone who just understands and can be there and not judge or ask more than I can give. “All I want from you, is to hold me while I recover”- speaks volumes. you have so many hidden gems from long ago, you have a true poets soul.

  7. That “sister or brother” is something that we so need when we’re going through those dark times in our life. A lot of people don’t understand that, but I’ve been there and I totally get it… Well said, Ivor.

  8. Thank you for pulling this one from the archives. It is sad to read, knowing you have lost someone, and need a friend to help you through the pain. I know now, you have so many wonderful friends to lean on, if needed. P.S. did you get my E-mail of my book being delivered on the 12th?

    1. Thank you, yes Patrick I received your email, and I’m looking forward to your book arriving soon, I shall let you know when the eagle has landed. Sorry I hadn’t replied yet, just Ivor being a slack Aussie, but in my defence I’ve been busy doing a lot of online chatting and video talking to a lovely lady [Gina] who seems to have more than captured my attention. She is a fellow blogger/friend and writer, and our pen friendship is progressing Lovingly, from pencil ✏ to thick texta-colour. 😊

    1. Thank you Colleen, I wrote the poem way back then, and I’ve had it tucked away, I didn’t like the words back then, but now I’m pleased with the way it reads. I see it in a completely different light now !!

Thank you Claudia, It’s Midday here and I’m not long out of bed, I’ve been quite tired lately, but I’ll be ok, after a bit more rest. hmmm, I seem to be chatting , messenger/video chat, with one particular blogger/dear friend. I seem to be smitten, and our relationship is blossoming, although just on-line at the moment, we both want to eet up soon

  15. Ivor this is such a sweet poem. Human connection and touch is so very healing. I never knew that until it was limited. We need someone to hold us while we recover. I love this. Thank you
