Head’s falling like an unpinned grenade.
Soon ready to explode.
Burying shrapnel pieces in corners of shade.
Scattered like broken retina globes.
Razor blades shredding memory lockets.
Slivered icicles inside blurry sockets.
Needles of pain.
Sheets of sleet before the rain.
Bloodied eyeball tracks like meteor trails.
And the pain numbing capsules do fail.
Oh please, blindly needing to set sail.
Upon swirling Oceans, like Homer’s tales.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Thank you my friend, nearly lunch time, and it’s eased off somewhat, and I’ll be able to go a do small plumbing job after lunch. Doing my exercises now, which also helps.

I swear I have a head as thick as your pumpkin. At first I couldn’t figure out what a pumpkin had to do with “Needles of pain. Sheets of sleet before the rain.” It wasn’t until I read others’ comments that I understood. I sometimes wonder if I’ve missed the soul of a poem because I’m saying pink and the poem is saying bicycle. But I now understand the depth of a migraine. Feel better, my friend. Just rest and all will pass.

Love your descriptions Ivor and I’m glad you’re feeling better. I took paracetamol with my morning coffee today, so my own aching head should pass soon.

I used to have terrible migraine until a Neurologist offered Acupuncture. Best thing that I ever did and I’ve not looked back since.

Yep, I do the acupuncture. I’ve got damaged vertebrae and discs in my neck, when they get inflammation, that swelling squeezes the occipital nerve which runs from the back of your neck, over the top of your head and ends up spearing me in the back of my left eye, “ouchie”, and hence it’s called occipital neuralgia…. 😆 well that’ll teach me for being a plumber, and falling off ladders. Should’ve been a Poet at the very start 😆😆

I had a friend whose father taught her to picture the colour blue when she had a migraine. She said it helped.
