The Oven Sky

The summer flowers have faded and gone

Wilting leaves, look like the devils blight

My Calendar declares Autumn is here

But it’s still summer in the city

Remaining hot and dusty, here on my plot

All the dogs are panting, searching for a cool block

Singed birds have refused to fly in the oven sky

Today’s furnace, is the night’s unwanted heater

Dry rot is crumbling, under the burning sun

Fat rain drops have forgotten their landing spots

And the drought smiles at us with disdain

As we gaspΒ and wait for the cool change tonight

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. Surely a trying space of time for you Ivor. We are waiting for Spring here, still snow and cold. Take care and rest well.

  1. Vivid! Imagery like a branding iron. In contrast, today in Colorado Springs, we’re seeing the heaviest snow fall in years. For a brief moment, though, I felt I was in Australia, in the midst of a drought.

    1. It’s a bit cooler this week, but we did have 4 horrid days in a row.. I’m happy you liked my little poem, especially with your “fat raindrops” in a line I twisted it around πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—πŸ€—

  2. After that amazing photo and your sizzlin’ poem, I think I’ll open a window and let the winter cold in! πŸ˜€
OH, I sure hope it cools down soon! Please be safe and stay indoors!

    1. I’m so glad you liked my photo. I took the picture just down at the end of my road, I happened to be in the right place at the right time. Yes the poem is a little scorcher. πŸœοΈπŸŒ„πŸŒ… I’m ok, the cool change did come. And Joe Cocker is always great to listen to ((hugs))
