Walking Towards The Light

We would all like to achieve our goals

Waiting there in the light, of our journey’s tunnel

Today I’m stepping closer towards my light

I’m taking a long walk to my favourite Cafe

I’ve not been able to walk there for five months

Where did those hungry days go

Stolen by time in theΒ  hospital

Time taken and over-used, resting and recovering

And many hard hours of rehab time, trying to get fit

I hope you are all loudly barracking for me

This a testing walk today

The walk will be the farthest I’ve gone during my comeback

I’ve got new rocking shoes on

And here I go !! Yeah. Cheers from the crowd

Phew !! I’m here, I made it !! More Cheers

Now I’ll rest, I’m half way

Enjoy these beautiful country surroundings

I’ll have to shoo the magpie off my coffee and cake

While I’m relaxing here, and thinking of what I’ve achieved.

The emergency ambulance wasn’t needed

I don’t have to ring for a taxi home

My shoes and feet are feeling strong and powerful, maybe

Enough recuperating time, off again, the walk back

To walk out of the agistment farm, and homeward bound

Yeah !! Did I hear the supporting crowd, clap and roar !!

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. It’s a fav’ hat . I bought it in New Zealand a few years ago, in a gorgeous Port called Napier, the whole town is restored in is original 30’s Decor style, google Napier NZ, it has a tragic history and a fascinating story…..

      1. All I had time for late last night was a glance at what you wrote to Jane. I thought I understood what you were saying — that she shouldn’t get too down on herself. But it wasn’t totally clear to me that’s what you meant. Seemed to me you didn’t clarify your point well enough. Just kind of trailed off. I bet Jane gets it though. She’s sharp like that.

      2. Thanks, yes I did trail off, nearly fell asleep, yes I trying tell her, not to be hard on herself, and I think I was saying to be more accepting with life and the cards it deals you…

  2. I count Gary Senior
    as a friend of mine.
    There may two of them,
but Mr. Ablett is one of a kind.
We all hit the goal post at times,
    but not chasing your dreams
    and surrendering your goals,
is truly a crime amongst crimes.
    Ivor, the poetry you post
are the toast of Geelong Town.

      1. It helps me keep going, especially on those days when it’s hard to get motivated, now of got this huge group of supporters to look up to, and I’ll not them down

    1. Not so much dancing today, a bit stiff and sore, the cheering, whistling and applauding are happily and gratefully accepted.
I’m hearing the crowd roar, and it’s very heartwarming for me ((Hugs)) xxx

    1. Thank you Robert, I’m starting to get excited. This week I’ve actually begun to feel like my nuts and bolts are fitting back together, and my life is a bit more normal.
