The Winning Team

 

I was down and out, at the bottom end of my cellar

But behind every engine’s burnt-out propeller

There needs to be a cohesive working team

To help strengthen an old wingless being

Doctors, diligently searched for the inward source

Nurses, no matter the hour, my dutiful force

In and out of hospital, a worrisome five times

Up and down, like a Jack and Jill nursery rhyme

My Rehab recovery was like Hillary’s interrupted journey

The Therapists never, let it be, and were my district attorney

An enthusiastic group, supported my every step, towards New York

We laughed, we cried, and listened to poetry talk

Therapy music, had to be played loud and clear

Every new hurdle I jumped, they all did cheer

Months and weeks passed, and gradually I lost my inner fears

To all  at M.R.C., in my heart, you’ll always be very dear.

I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    OH, Ivor! What a wonderful tribute to some amazing people! I’m so glad they were there for you, with you, and that you are on the road to full recovery! Together you all win!!! 🙂 I hope you have shared this poem with them! 🙂 I think they will definitely be with you, in spirit, on your Big Adventures to America! 🙂

    1. Yeah !! I’m taking the poem/poster with me to rehab centre on Friday. They’re be thrilled, I told them I’d be writing a piece about my time there.

      2. Yes ‘..my last Phsyio session with the crew, because of Easter, before I fly to America,… It’s sure to be fun day and with probably some hearty emotions (Especially from me)
