Bedtime Lullaby
Scream, scream
Who woke me, from my dream
I was riding on a magic jetstream
Made of purple and crimson beams
The infants screams do not cease
Poor child’s not at peace
Too young to comprehend why
There’s no bedtime lullaby
Mother’s glazed eyes look dry
Her love, caressing the baby’s cries
She’s loyally doing her best
For both, a tough journey, over this distant crest

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Oh the poor baby. And the poor mum. And the poor other peoples who want to comfort the child and can’t. Travel isn’t always easy!
And you DO look quite happy in the picture up above!

Aw. 😦 I always feel for the mother and the baby. 😦 They say the change in altitude hurts the baby’s ears. 😦
You’ve captured that experience perfectly, Ivor!
At least you’ve landed and are smiling! Ha! 😀
Your 2nd photo looks Spring green! 🙂
HUGS and the fun fun FUN has begun!!! 😛

It was easy to capture Carolyn, I could hear and see their tears, and I was floating away in dream land 😊😩

Howdy Ivor..hope you’re having a nice day, as they say in the US haha! Yes, I imagine they were both wrecks, poor things! If there’s a return trip to take place, the Mom must be dreading it already. Ahh no wonder you look so happy in the photo..good for you! Hope you’re having fun & New York is everything you hoped it would be! 😊

It’s, overwhelming for me , I really am a boy from country town Geelong, somehow I’m coping, everything is so big and so busy, I’m thoroughly enjoying myself, but I do get tired, so I just have to stop and rest. I’m not going to be able to see as much as I thought I would, but all of my therapists have been telling me for months, not to go past my comfort zone ..
But I’m no overly worried, the best part of trip is still to come. Meeting my cousins and their family’s, my dad would so happy that I’m doing this, he knew it was a dream of mine long ago !! 😂😅❤️❤️

Awww, yes NYC is a huge change & culture shock! I guess being city folks originally & still living in the city last time we went there, meant it wasn’t such a massive ordeal for us, & we loved it so much, we returned several times. However, I can understand why some people do not enjoy the crazy vibe there. It’s very easy to overdo things there, & get swept away in the hustle & bustle, but your therapists are right, take regular breaks. We said each time we went, we won’t walk as much, but we did every time! Enjoy the time you have left there, it’s a big place & there’s still so many places we haven’t seen but would like to visit. Hopefully, we’ll get across the pond again one day! You’re going to have such a blast meeting your cousins, what a wonderful thing to get to do, I’m sure your Dad would be beaming with joy! ☺️

Everyone has been very polite here with their comments about crying infants!
I hope you had ear plugs Ivor – sleeping tablets are also useful on long haul flights especially as we’re no longer allowed to drug the infants, such a pity! The Victorians used ‘Mother’s Friend’ a mixture of Opium, water and treacle, what a splendid idea! 😀
Seriously though, I’m glad you arrived safe and sound on American soil and I hope your body clock adjusts pretty quick. 🙂

Sounds like a good brew !! My 3rd morning here, I’m slowly adjusting Sue. Doing a tour of Central Park this morning, then meeting up with my cousins at lunch time, who are making a special trip from Philadelphia to come in and see me in New York, yeah !!

Oh, Ivor, how exciting for you.
Obviously, I’ve not met your cousins from Philly, but having seen photos and heard all about them I feel excited too, please do say Hi to them from your friend in England! And I hope you have an absolutely brilliant day.

I’ve been that mother…it is such an exhausting and embarrassing and helpless situation that you’ve captured beautifully! Enjoy your time and no need to feel pressure to see everything. NY will be there for another trip!
