Frosted Glass (Revised)
My courtyard window is frosted
From this morning’s piercing coldness
It’s a freezing winter’s day
The wind feels like razor blades
Even the venetian blinds, are shaking
With-holding none of the external arctic blast
A frozen sparrow lays on the sill
Ready to fall, on dirt, so icy
A meagre frigid offering
To the polar Snowlord
And I’m a blizzard’s open door
A captured statue, shivering to the core
Riveted, by my eternal music score
Leonard Cohen’s, Avalanche and more

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Thankyou Soiba, it so cold this morning, and at the time I was listening to a lot of Leonard Cohen’s music and words, haha and a poem was born !!

I shivered from the frost and reading about the bird being an offering to the Snowlord. Another grand and darkish poem; perfect for SMM! Brr. Do keep warm, though, my Aussie friend. 💋

I’m warm now, snug in bed, it’s nearly 1.00am. And I did submit “Frosty” to SMM, dreamtime for me ♡

A little poetic licence taken with lots of over-exaggeration, but I was feeling the cold, hehe, maybe the hangover shakes, from a big Saturday afternoon and evening at “My” Footy Club…..

🙂 Well the combination was lovely. 🙂 Maybe you can do it again sometime. Hahahahahahahaa! 🙂

Not exaggerating this morning, freezing, 2C only

That’s about 35.6 for fahrenheit according to the thing on the computer. Which is not extremely cold for us. It’s cold, but not quite freezing yet. So that’s pretty darn cold for where you are Ivor?

Sitting at my computer, wearing, my knitted beanie, winter jacket, other jumpers, tracksuit pants, woolie socks and ugh boots, definitely not a pretty “picture”.

Oh but I do love winter. There’s something about it that inspires, insulates, or even gives rest to my creative soul. I see you there. And you look fine! 🙂

Nature can be harsh. I am used to the cold and I appreciate it, but I felt for the frozen little bird 💔

It wasn’t so terribly cold, I borrowed a lot of poetic licence, and over exaggerated the facts, but I was happy with the effects… thankyou…

Don’t we all? I do the same when I write. Those effects seem to help engage the writer and the readers 😉

Maybe that’s why we write, we’ve an over abundance of imagination, and our writings are the release of these inner extra illusions.

That is one of the reasons why I write for sure 💕 That and my love for words and imaginary worlds. Also my friends and students are very eager to read what springs out of those overactive circuits of mine ^^

Your words freeze me to my core, Ivor. Now, go and put out some more bird seed, or rind, or whatever it is Australian birds eat in the Winter.

The sparrow wasn’t really dead, I just made that up, but knock on wood, going to Zero in the morning brrrr,

Wrap up tight, make your words ignite, just be careful, as my Nana used to say, not to make a fuel out of yourself!

A wonderful write, Ivor! A beautiful read! 🙂
It’s so wonderful how you are in tune to your surroundings and can let your imagination help you write about your observations and feelings. Because of that, we who read them, can relate, too. 🙂
HUGS!!! 🙂
