Under Burnt Fields

 

To the east, across the bay

The horizon is a smokey haze

To the west, across the plains

The paddocks have been smokey for days

I gaze up, towards the sun

The sky is a smokey grey

 

Beyond the horizon, there’s our Tasman Sea

Under the burnt fields, there awaits the seeds

Above the smokey clouds, there is a blue sky

 

I know the moon will bring the tide in again

I know the oceans will eventually produce rain

I know this living hell cannot last forever

I know this to be a message from mother nature

 

Do they hear her chasms crying

Do they understand! Stop the lying

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Uvor, this is just so sad, but with hope in it too. I forgot that you live in Aystealia, and my thoughts have been very much with Australia this morning. And prayers too. Those horrific temperatures in Sydney! Just AWFUL. Are you near to the fires in Geelong, Ivor? I will look it up now. May God be with you. Much loveto you my friend xxxx

  3. Ivor, I just HAD to Reblog this. I couldn’t see where to put my own comment on the Reblog, but let’s hope that lots of people are made more aware. Your poem is poignant. And the song meant something un particular to your post, but as well as that, it meant something very particular to me personally this morning that was very important. THANKYOU Ivor xxxx

      1. Agreed. I think that iwhen a country is so far away, mthe world iIt does not become TarULY aware of what is going on there. Though, this morning, Sky News did make it oretty obvious.

      3. I know. It is just AWFUL. And how are they going to stop it, with the wind as it is, and the weather conditions. Just SO frightening and utterly horrific. My orayers, always.

    1. Thank you Lorraine, the smoke did thin out late this afternoon. Yes the smoke clouds are huge, they have even drifted across the ocean to New Zealand 🌏🌏🤗💙

  6. Beautiful poem, feeling these fires are to burn the darkness which was brought to Australia to destroy the sacred lands, flora and fauna. The precious lands are being carved up yet again. The destruction through land grabbing and sending the produce out of the country so Australians can no longer enjoy the good food our ancestors grew.

    1. Thank you Nanette for your kind words, and continued support , yes the selling off our sacred land has come back to finally haunt the greedy government. They have failed the indigenous owners, and now there are failing again. They have have let extinction of our native fauna take place, to be worst in the world at looking after animals.. They bought our country much international shame.. The Adani coal mining project is the worst case of government greed over the well being of the environment, in the world, and vast amounts of natural water resources that are needed to this fossil fuel is huge, and utter disgrace that they are allowing this destruction to go ahead…. I have nightmares, and I’m beyond disappointed with our government policies…. Now with the proposed drilling in the world heritage listed Great Australian Bight, it’s really unbelievable how greed is more important than the environment’s protection .. 🌏🌏💙🐋🐬🐧🐨🐦🕊️

      1. I could not remember the company name Adani they export the coal back to India who now is one of the greenest and environmentally progressive country at the expense of others. I had to stop reading the page it just upset me so much. Australia has become very lacking in care and pride of all the people especially the Aboriginals they have been failed to be recognised. They supervised the magnificents for over 50,000 years and the immigrants destroyed it in 200 years.

      1. Yes Sue… things will come good, but sometimes more preventative measure should be put in place…. we will see down the track, if they able to learn anything …this time….

    All of this is so sad. And it’s frustrating when those in power/leadership don’t do the proper things to help/make a positive difference. 😦

They’re starting to help the people now…. but it’s after the event…. they should so much more preventative work in looking after our country…. typical politicians…. reactive rather than proactive…. WHY….. are they so slow in their forward thinking…. A last big devastating fire season was only ten years ago…. when will they ever learn…. when will they ever read their history books……. (my firm belief, is to be a politician, they must have failed history at school …. Trump has never read the history about “walls”…. they have all failed the test of people…)

  9. A connection here “Emerging from the dark night” sent this message to me and it proves our point exactly

    yes if we had let the original custodians of this land have their way none of this would be happening. I don’t know if you know but there is a town called Tathra that did not burn and there they allowed indigenous peoples to take care of the bush, I saw a post about it on Facebook.
