Haiku: White From Fright
Smoke’s thicker than clouds
Hot embers filtering down
The day’s white from fright

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

This is so devastating Ivor and will affect your country for many years to come. It is impossible to comprehend!

I thought I’d add the map which was in a Newspaper over the weekend…It really depicted how vast an area the fires have burnt/and still burning……. some are so vicious they creating own heat storms, mini-hurricanes, within the fires themselves….. A fireman lost his life in a 8 ton fire-engine that was picked up by a fire vortex, and flipped over … the poor chap was kill by this horrific force of nature……. everything is unbelievable…. and beyond comprehension…..

I agree with Peter, it is incomprehensible. I feel for everyone, the human lives lost and the millions of animals, their suffering doesn’t bear thinking about.
Thank you so much for choosing to link this to our challenge. 🙂

I wrote the Haiku last night, not thinking about linking it to your prompt……. Originally I had the last line as “The day’s red and black”… but somehow I managed to chance it, and come up “white from fright”……..and then I tied the Haiku into the two songs that I had picked out already…. anyhow it seemed to work ok….

It worked really well.
And now it’s my turn to be in bed, so I’ll say goodnight, see you in the morning, Ivor 🙂

It’s been like thick London fog all, but it’s not, it smells awful.
And we couldn’t see the sun…. They was a wildlife scientist report before… “HALF a BILLION”, Animals have perished in the fires….. It’s very disturbing, Sue, my smokey watery eyes are starting to sting, mixed in with a few salty tears, not a good mixture…. 🌏🌏💙

I am with Peter as well Ivor. I have seen many maps showing people the size of the fire compared to their own countries, so ‘we’ can better comprehend it’s mass. I am so sorry for all of this. Is there any change at all? Any rain?

Today my town is covered by a thick smokey haze, the sun is a yellow globe, the air is stuffy and uncomfortable to breathe… but I’m ok…. we are 500km from the fires…. imagine how bad it is there…….they have estimated we have lost, 1/2 a Billion animals…. and the conditions are still tough……… Kangaroo Island off the South Australian coast, a large Nation park of 4500 sqkm, … half the island has already been burnt to the ground and still burning…. It’s all beyond comprehension…… whatever you imagine it is… well triple that that picture……..
Today I’ve just heard the two largest fires, one in NSW, and here in eastern Victoria are probably going to merge, under these present wind conditions… Oh dear things are bad for all those in the affected areas(which is vast)… my eyes are stinging from mixture of smoke and tears….. maybe a bit more later on…. ((hugs))

Ivor….I don’t have any words. I’m just so very sorry for everyone (human, animal, earth) who are affected.

Powerful, important post, Ivor! Photo, songs/vids, haiku, and map!
I’m told that firefighters from Canada and America are there to help battle the blazes. I’m’ so glad they can come and help in this devastating time.
You know you have our love, concern, prayers, and (((HUGS)))

The entire UK fits 6 times into NSW and Victoria. Your photo nearly covers the whole of England. Gratitude to the Canadian and American firefighters coming to aid it is really needed. Much love to them and their familys too who will be anxious for their safe return.

And we’ve still away’s to go….. but maybe a bit of respite at the moment…. I’ve a friend who’s originally from Corryong, and of his relatives that still live there, 13 families have lost their home…… it’s so sad…. xx

This is so sad, but thank goodness only their homes have gone and not lives.

This is a powerful haiku. Thank you for including the map for perspective. I hope that your country gets a reprieve soon. I can’t begin to imagine the horror you’re going through.

I have been browsing on-line greater than three hours these days, but I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It’s pretty price sufficient for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content material
as you probably did, the net will probably be much more helpful
than ever before.
