Dusty photos hang on the walls
Where reality’s silhouette calls
Her spinning wheel, her smiles, and her soft hands
They were there first, where the hourglass stands
Now cobwebs grow between the frames and windows
Where nostalgia dwells on the lunar shadows

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

“Dusty shelves lined with personal photos, whom I’ve lost and found over the years.
Mostly pictures of her, now departed for a while, always engulfing my many fears.
And images of family and friends, but they’re all smiling as if nothing’s wrong.
Oh how we mysteriously grin, for that camera pointed at our souls of song.”
from my poem “Vaults and Bookcases”

You are so right, no matter what turmoil is brewing inside, we smile and carry on, and everyone else thinks all is just fine, nothing to worry about here! 🙂

Everything in life, eventually, fades, just like, those, originally, bright-colored, photographs…

Yes they do.. but memories are remaining unfaded… not exactly a replica… but unfaded

So elegantly penned with a central theme of remembrance and memories. It is poignant in a way, the overall atmosphere of the poem, as well as sad with longing and nostalgia. I can resonate with this deeply. Wonderful piece, Ivor. It is beautiful. ❤

Lovely poem. How I wish to survive life and to know old age. To look back and find something to be nostalgic about.

Memories are definitely kind of a double-edged blade that way. But at least there is beauty in them and we have something that is worth missing once it is gone. Hugs.

Thank you dear Carolyn.. Yes.. Every time I dust the photos,.. I’m covered in specks of dusty memories….
I’m messaging you from hospital at the moment, an ambulance brought me in a few hours… feeling a bit betterer than when I got here… waiting for scans and X-rays..

Oh, gosh! I’m so sad to know you had to be in the hospital! Even for a moment! 😦
I’m glad I found the comment first that said you are doing okay. I would’ve been SO worried!

Thank you for your kind thoughts… I’m afraid these episodes are part of my life and what I cope with… and I handled the situation calmly… the nurses think I’m a wizz… and got to hand out a few of my poetry cards 😁
