Our 2nd Lockdown/Isolation of 6 weeks started a few days ago, and I’m afraid my anxiety levels did soar…. but I had a little project to do for a friend’s new abode. To make a house name sign, called “Serenity”…. Anyhow when I started, I was feeling quite ordinary, physically weak and shaky, but as I progressed with the project, as the name suggests, ‘serenity’, with each passing day, I was gradually becoming more settled and calmer. this morning after applying the 5th coat of ‘sun yellow’ lettering onto the ‘deep ocean’ colour background, I was happily pleased with my finished piece of craftsmanship. The task was both, enjoyable and relaxing. Then I wrote this little serene poem…. Now I must say the “Serenity” name plaque does look handsome on my verandah wall !!
Serenity, a Sign of the Times
Serenity lives high in the trees
Swims freely in warm seas
Serenity glides on a soft breeze
Hovers among our gentle bees
Serenity’s now a forgotten rhyme
A fading sign of the times
Serenity now adorns my verandah wall
A gathering light, my evening shawl
Ivor Steven (c) August 2020.

Lovely poem, Ivor! Your poem reminds us that although we are surrounded by tragedy and isolation, serenity is also all around us. Watching the butterflies and birds outside my windows is a great source of serenity for me.
I like the “Serenity” sign you made. I made one for Robert’s den that says, “Reason.” It serves as an antidote to all of the insanity going on right now.
All the best! Cheryl

I think having little signs/anecdotes in the home, are both pleasurable and consoling for our souls… I’ve one on my bathroom mirror…

the light is glowing brighter”

Ivor, you’ve reminded me of my
favourite Mental As Anything song;
Bjorn is just a viking
He is very a handy with a sword
He loves nothing better
Than to cut and slash
right through a horde
Mutilation, jubilation
Friendly muscles, in a tussle
Anna’s a girl viking
She is very handy with a spear
She won’t wear silk stockings
Armour-plated garments
are her sphere
In the fjords, you can hear them
Eerie horns blow, viking love show
Bjorn and Anna earn their leisure
They have each other
for their pleasure
Bjorn is on his long ship
He and Anna fought it out today
He says it is their Waterloo
Vikings shouldn’t mix
their work and play
All that blonde hair
for them to share
So much plunder, Cut asunder
Now when Bjorn and Anna
see each other
It’s on the battlefield,
not as lovers
Those vikings love to fight and play
Fighting berserk warriors hey hey!
Those vikings love to fight and play

Oh wow, I’ll have to save into collection, and I’ll put it on YouTube when I get home
I’m out stretching my legs, firing off a batch of arrows, throwing a cluster of spears
and hurling few axes…
Ivor the Viking is out for a fling

The Serenity sign is beautiful! And what a wonderful reminder to breath, smile, and find the peace needed. 🙂
I hit play on the vid and while it played I read your beautiful poem! Then I closed my eyes through the rest of the song.

The sign is lovely Ivor..And serenity so illusive at times. I wondered how you are faring with all the deaths in Victoria. I’m so glad this helped you.
Focusing on something CALMING like this this just takes our mind off worry and problems. Sending love 💜♥️💚
