No Place Like Home

A sleeping beauty in her nightwear

Pure honesty lived in our home atmosphere

Her truth breathed, the air we shared

Hiding behind white silent doors

They tried to take her from our shores

By nailing her bed to a hospital floor

They heard my stoic voice roar

I told them, they wouldn’t win

“And watch out!! Don’t throw her in

you’ll surely regret your foolish sin

be warned, she’s Circe the Siren”

When I held her sweetness

I believe I touched greatness

And achieved weightlessness

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. It was a very evocative and stressful time…. the medical profession weren’t going to allow her to go home…. I won !!…. see lived comfortably at home for another 3 years….. 😀😍

  1. You did the right thing to ensure Carole remained at home to be cared for with love. Carole is a special soul one of great endurance, peace and love, she set a standard we should all apply. The care homes are cold and lonely places to be. This was no place for Carole she deserved the best. You made sure she received the best. Blessings to you always Ivor and every day is a tribute to the love you shared with Carole. The love flowed both ways and still does.

    1. Thank you Nanette for your truly lovely comments and endorsement of Carole’s gracious courage, and love of life, no matter the circumstances, and was indeed a glorious example of “Where is Love”
      Where Is Love

      Behind every word
      There’s a thought
      Between every thought
      There’s an emotion
      Underneath the emotion
      There’s a heartbeat
      Below the heartbeat
      There’s a soul
      Within the soul
      There lives love

    1. And to think they were going to deny her that 3 of comfort happiness, because they thought I couldn’t handle the job…… Well after a bucket of tears and one sided argument…(there way a panel of 4, and then just me and my case manager)…. they allowed her to stay home with me… and big win us.. and dear Carole…. xx

      1. At the time It was very upsetting… but with help from my case manager, the right decision was made in the end… .. I never told Carole what was going on… she just thought she was going home, like always, after one of her hospital stays…. 😀😊

  2. This brings tears of joy! 🙂
When a person has a good, loving, safe, etc., home…then that is where they should be if they can be. I’m so proud of you for fighting for what was best for her…what she’d want.
I know she would have done the same for you if the tables had been turned.
Why? Because that is what people do for each other when they love each other. 🙂
    Still crying. 🙂
    HUGS!!! 🙂

    1. Oh…don’t cry … I won the battle… and Carole was able to live happy and comfortable for the next 3 years, and she kept smiling at me every morning.
… Oh what a gorgeous and glorious start to my day …. 💙💜🌏 ((hugs))
