We Live in a Funny World

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge: Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Today’s prompt: Write a piece of prose or poetry that ends with in the end, we were just a moment.


We Live in a Funny World

Am I feeling funny ha-ha

Or am I a funny la-la?

I cannot put my finger on it

Or am I an alien in orbit?



I am forever wondering

Why the sentinels are not flying

What are they guarding?

Beyond the above

I need to ask the dove

Is there more to life than love?



I eavesdrop in on my own dreams

And listen to voices, so it seems

Jotting down subconscious conversations

Between my miscreations and aberrations



I was in a wet mess in my bedroom

And left my nightshirt in the bathroom

I was drowning in a blue lagoon

And pleading for gentler treatment

Then an angel came with soothing ointment

And in the end, we were just a moment

Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  2. Oh Ivor! I love that first stanza – it starts of whimsical but the last two lines really pulled at my heartstrings! So many ways to interpret this. I read it several times and each time brought new discoveries. Bravo! Bravo!

    1. Thank you Irma… And yes a mixture of different little pieces, that funnily enough they seemed to fit together here… I enjoy the process of trying to form a cohesive poem from the little pieces in my notebook….. ‘and in the end’ , I invariably surprise myself…..

    1. Yes.. I’ve just woken up 6.20am, and it’s anniversary day, September 10th..
      I’ve been writing an anniversary poem over the last few days, I’ll post it soon…
      Thanks for your happy words about my happy piece of imagination…. Sometimes I amaze myself… 😂😊😄🌈😎

      2. Lockdown has it’s restrictions, but going to the cemetery is going to funny to start with… showing up with flowers, wearing a mask !! 😎😀 I’m sure there’s a poem , with Carole smiling at my funny appearance….
