G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

I was on a long-distance commuter train. It was some time before I realised that it wasn’t a disaster movie people were all watching on their laptops
I was making Carole’s breakfast, and I heard her crying, and I ran into lounge-room to see what the problem was, see was watching the TV,… and her morning show had gone over to a direct broadcast from New York…. and she happen to see those unfortunate people jumping out of the Tower…… I had to turn the TV off…it was too distressing for her…..
Excellent poem, Ivor. I must admit that I hadn’t quite realised what date it was today until I read your poem.
Here in the UK, at around three o’clock in the afternoon I was in the Lower School building; the children were in their classrooms listening to the end of day story shortly before home time. I was switching off the computers in the ICT room, suddenly the school caretaker’s wife came running in – ”Quickly Sue, go turn on the TV” – We watched in disbelief as events unfolded and both of us cried. As soon as the children had gone home the caretaker’s wife rounded up the staff to tell them what had happened? It was as though we were watching a horror movie, but real and heartbreaking!
Yes indeed it was Sue…I was making Carole’s breakfast, and I heard her crying, and I ran into the lounge-room to see what the problem was, see was watching the TV,… and her morning show had gone over to a direct broadcast from New York…. and she happen to see those unfortunate people jumping out of the Tower…… I had to turn the TV off…it was too distressing for her…..
Beautiful poem commemorating the 9/11 tragedy. ❤ Then as now, adversity shows some people to be selfless heroes. The news spread by word-of-mouth at my school. Later, our school was visited by a fireman carrying a boot for contributions, giving us an opportunity to help the victims.
Thank you for this beautiful poem and tribute, Ivor.
Such a sad day in the history of our world. But we must never forget it, or those who died, or those who lived and have suffered since. 😦
Early morn for us…and my hubby and I were getting ready for work, our kids getting ready for school, when a neighbor called and asked, “Is your TV on?” I said, “No.” And she said, “Turn it on.” So we turned it on and watched in horror as the WTC’s 2nd tower was being hit by a plane. 😦
Good Morning Carolyn…. wow.. I’ve slept in, it’s 9.50am, and that means I had nearly 10 hours sleep….. the inner emotions of the last few days must have caught up with me……
Oh …I remember “That Day” like it was yesterday…..

Thanks for ‘Link’…. Oh so sad…!!
It’s pouring rain here this morning, so I am stuck inside for more reasons than one… hmmm, there’s a poem in this….
thank you for kindness….
Yes a day for for listening to Leonard Cohen… 😀💙💜🌏 ((Hugs))
I was at work and one of the workers had turned on the TV for her morning break. Soon we were all gathered together and watched as the horror unfolded. We managed to get everything done and then we were told to go home and be with our families.
Lovely tribute, Ivor. That day will be forever etched in my memory. My husband was supposed to be on that flight, but he arrived early and was able to get on the flight before. Such a tragic day! I’m glad you turned off the TV for Carole. I couldn’t stomach watching the news afterwards – it was re-traumatizing and I needed to function at my work.
a very special tribute to all those concerned Ivor, lovely!
a neighbour invited me to watch as I don’t have tv, I thought she was watching scifi … I had no concept it was for real, totally surreal to watch it unfold … or collapse!
Indeed so Kate…. I was making Carole’s breakfast, and I heard her crying, and I ran into the lounge-room to see what the problem was, see was watching the TV,… and her morning show had gone over to a direct broadcast from New York…. and she happen to see those unfortunate people jumping out of the Tower…… I had to turn the TV off…it was too distressing for her…..
As you know, all these sorts of violent attacks are unnecessary…. here’s a great old song by Tom Waits, and his song and lyrics are compelling and powerful….
powerful but I don’t believe in mentioning the killers name, that’s all they want is their moment of fame … and we should not give them that! It’s the victims who should be named 😦
I was getting ready to leave for work and saw it on my TV. I couldn’t believe my eyes! When I got to work, they sent us home. I was single at the time and didn’t want to be alone so met up with some friends at a Chili’s and we watched more of it unfold together. It was so sad and very scary. A day I will never forget.
I was up on a ladder fixing a wooden chimney! Sounds like a paradox, but it’s true. I went home when I heard and watched the second plane hit and then as the towers came crashing down. Such a sad site to see!
I was home, a neighbor knocked on the door to tell New York was under attack. I turned on the television and saw the towers come down. It was horrible. And yes, Happy anniversary to Mich. 🙂

I think of those people. All those people. And all the ones left behind. I can feel Carole’s empathy and sadness all these years later.
