G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

Ivor, a deeply philosophical poem, an enhanced version of the age-old question: is the glass half-full or half-empty? I think the answer might be,” It depends on when you ask me.” But for this particular day, the poem ends on a hopeful note. It seems that the glass is half full! β€
Yes Cheryl… in my days of lockdown, I always have a feeling that I’m only half achieving, or half accomplishing what I want to do…. today is half full, and I must go out and try accomplish more…. πππ
Yes, it was early morning…. as I contemplated another day in lockdown and isolation….The situation harder for for older people like me, living at home by themselves…..
I guess not, and maybe comparing your situation to my mum’s is not accurate because she is very social during day, it’s only night times when she is alone in her house.
I wish you well, and how wonderful that you keep sharing with us your lovely poems? Keep it up!
Yes Sue… that’s what’s happening, I think I am only achieving or accomplishing half of what I would normally do in a day…. as hard as I try to keep busy and do more… !!
Thank you d.a…. sorry if I’ve missed your post,.. I’ve spent half a day in bed, and the other of the day, I’ve spent searching for the other half of the day
Such a cacophony of feelings Ivor. One moment there is bliss is being home and safe, with needs met. The next moment the frustration of feeling ‘trapped’ and confined sets in. We aren’t meant for this. But alas, we must.
This is such a beautifully apropos piece, Ivor. It really speaks to struggles that we are all encountering and offers a glimmer of hope to help us carry on. Thank you.
Thank you Ursula for your kind and accurate comments, and as my title suggests… “there’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”… Leonard Cohen

What time of day/night is this? I am guessing dawn maybe, because you still see “last night’s fading moon.”

I am so sorry to here that, Ivor, it is exactly what my poor mum is experiencing, loneliness.

I’ll be ok, but people don’t understand the other half the story. ππ

A heartfelt, image-vivid, emotion-filled poem, and so relatable…we can all relate to this feeling of a half life. Great poem, Ivor!
Oh! May all of your halves be whole soon…and may the cracks soon be smooth! π

And sometimes half is enough as we wait for our glass to fill again

I hope so, my half seems to be dwindling, 8.00pm, and I’m already in bed, the half I did today must have worn me out
