I’m Radioactive

I’m Radioactive

Life is a waiting game

Between scans and closing door frames

I am waiting for a nuclear cardio stress test

And X-rays of my radioactive chest

The numbing sensation is surreal

Inside a buzzing tunnel I am sealed

Where magnetic photos are taken

And I am waiting, feeling forsaken

“Damn.” The negatives were not clear enough

I wait another hour for the next shot of dyestuff

Back behind those closing door frames

Life’s finality is a waiting game

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Yes.. I had a radioactive dye put in my blood , and I was scanned. Then the stress test, I was given a drug that quickened the heart rate, as I was electronically monltored. {This was quite unpleasant} and then I was given an antidote to stop it… I had to rest a bit, then I was scanned again… (this is when the photos weren’t good enough…).. Had to wait an hour, before I could be rescanned.!!.. The whole process took 5 hours… 😩🙄

  1. Oh, gosh! 😮 😦
I’m so sorry you had to go through this, Ivor! Praying for excellent results!!!
Not a fun way to spend 5 hours…but will be worth it to get good results.

Do you now glow in the dark!?!? 😉

    1. I don’t know if I glowed in the dark or not, I’ve been asleep for over 10 hours !! .. Haha I went to the Box Office Café for a late lunch afterwards, and these pregnant ladies kept coming in, and I had to tell Alex to seat them at the other end of the Cafe… because I was “Radioactive”
I wrote the poem while I waiting to be rescanned, and Imagine Dragons immediately came to mind for my post… I showed Alex the rough poem and about the song, which she knew, and she laughed infectiously and that made my day 😂😅💙🌏🎶

  2. Sounds like this was an awful experience but hopefully the scans will yield some helpful results. I was once in an MRI for 1 hour because it broke and they had to keep me in there until they fixed it! Good thing I was “meditating” and fell asleep otherwise, I would have had some serious claustrophobia issue.

  3. Do you glow in the dark? I once had to have a skeletal image scan taken. I was told to sit still for over one hour while the machine clicked and whirred. At the end of that time the technician reentered the room and told me it had to be done again. Apparently I moved during the process and ruined the shots of my bone structure. I was a wee bit miffed but did the no moving business one more time. I did not glow in the dark but thanks for asking. 🙂
