“The strongest and sweetest songs yet remain to be sung.” – Walt Whitman
Tomorrow’s Song
When I am old
Or, when I am older
Not if, but when
Alone my later years I will spend
I will listen to music at home
Croon along with Leonard Cohen
Read dusty books by poets and champions
Write simple words about bees and lions
When I am old
Living on leftover fools gold
I will hobble down smooth paths
Sip on tea and savour Guinness draughts
And thank my tiring tongue
For hungering what I have left undone
When I am old
Shivering from the cold
I will silently snuggle up in bed
Quietly chase dreams in my head
And thank my fading mind
For seeing what I have left behind

You will write your poetry and enjoy the accolades, you’ll ache a bit more and will look at the number on your birthday cards and wonder “How the heck did that happen, when did I get so old?”
Welcome to my world, Ivor – I began thinking this way about ten years ago! 😂

Thank you Deb, and sorry I have not been to your site lately. .. I have stress and anxiety problems at the moment, I have lots of issues going on with my ‘book’ over the last two weeks. It’s a complicated life for this author. and I am struggling to keep control of the situation
Printing and publishing problems, and things are nearly too technical for my capabilities. .. but I’m arduously battling away… however I seem to be out of my comfort zone. 😌🌏😥

Oh gee that sounds like a lot Ivor. I actually was thinking a lot of you on the 31st of March as that was the release date, wasn’t it?
I hope this doesn’t go on too long. There must be a lot involved. Take good care of yourself. If you ever need to debrief just drop me an email. Love and hugs 💙

Thank you dear Deb… It’s been a rough start for my innocent little book of poems…. and I have had many a sleepless night… I’m just formulating another letter/email to my publishers now… It’s about copyright issues with my Amazon Kindle Book … Amazon are being difficult and finicky.. this publishing world is way out of my league .. but I shall keep plugging away… Oh wow… all ((Hugs)) gratefully accepted….

It sounds pretty complex Ivor and to be losing sleeo it must be weighing heavily on you. Maybe things were simpler before all this technology. So sorry to hear that.

Plodding away… I have to catalogue all my poems in the book with the date I first published them on my Blog/website.. apparently for copyright purposes… I’ve done the poem list this morning … 130 poems .. and now I have to go through my blog site to find the dates I first published each poem … probably take me the rest of the day… if not more… it’s slow tedious work… I’ll definitely need to get out for a break later…. 😀😎😍

And getting out of your comfort zone probably means you are learning a lot that’s new Ivor..
Making those notes fir each poem must also have brought back a lot of memories of what you were going through when you wrote them..

A heart-touching poem, Ivor. And that song grabs my heart, too.
You, Ivor, are not old yet…you are just well-seasoned and have years left to enjoy! 🙂
You have built such beautiful memories so far and they will always be with you!
And through your beautiful heart, wonderful words, and kindness, you’ve become a special part of our memories, too! 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
PS…How are you feeling today? You’ve been on my mind a lot this week and I’ve prayed for you.

Hi Carolyn I’m going reasonably ok… Having lots of teething problems with my book being held up… Lots of emails to and from … which is testing my limited technical abilities… but I’m plugging away and hopefully the issues will be cleared up soon…. this publishing world is nearly out of my league… 😀😎😘
