Life In Mime

This week the Wednesday Challenge from Weekly Prompts is: THE UNEXPECTED
Please visit there fabulous site by clicking > HERE … And my poem below was a totally “Unexpected” philosophical piece from a few of my ‘scattered’ thoughts today …

Life In Mime

We do spend a lifetime

Trying to make our lives rhyme

But truth is scattered with our life’s crimes

Of how we didn’t take the honest climb

And our protest words were only in mime

Against the inhumane pantomime of mankind

Nick Cave & The Dirty Three-Time Jesum Transeuntum Et Non Riverentum. Lyrics

[Verse 1]
We were called to the forest… when we went down
A wind blew warm and eloquent
We were searching for the secrets of the universe…
And we rounded up demons and forced them to tell us what it all meant
We tied ’em to trees and broke them down one by one
And on a scrap of paper, they wrote these words…
And as we read them, the sun broke through the trees…
“Dread the passage of Jesus, for he will not return.”

[Verse 2]
Then we headed back to our world and left the forest behind…
Our hearts singin’ with all the knowledge of love
Then somewhere, somehow, we lost the message along the way…
And when we got home, we bought ourselves a house
And we bought a car that we did not use…
And we bought a cage and two singing birds…
And at night we’d sit and listen to the canary’s song
For we’d both run right out of words…
Now the stars, they are all angled wrong…
And the sun and the moon refuse to burn
But I remember a message in a demon’s hand
Dread the passage of Jesus for he does not return…
…he does not return…
…he does not return..

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Ivor, lies are unpleasant, but lying to yourself is tragic! Sometimes, as so eloquently expressed in your poem, we engage in a “pantomime.” If we haven’t made an honest effort, we are deceiving ourselves. Great post! ❤

    Take care! enjoy your weekend!
