Dark Rain Again




Like sloppy mud pies

Dark clouds smudge the sky

And hard rain again stings my eyes


A crying deluge floods the soggy plains

And the country has become a contagious drain

Clinging to my eyes and floating on yesterday’s pain

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      4. Yes I write and read more, but for some strange atmosphere’s gravity pull is heavy on our psyches, and here in the middle of the afternoon I am struggling to keep my eyes open … 🙂😐😎

  9. Have you got the heavy dark skies there too, Ivor? Or is this just metaphorical.. we managed a walk in the sun earlier but its turned very bleak this afternoon. I just heard you have zero cases down there today.. fingers crossed.. its so hard that sense of confinement..

    1. Hi Deb.. more of a metaphorical piece about being in lockdown again .. but also we have had heavy dark skies and plenty of cold rain, so I tied the two situations together into this poem …
      The restrictions have eased a bit , but things things are still in the balance .. ((Hugs))

        the curtain is closed
        and mourning time froze
        coldness invades the light
        mindless thoughts taste like egg-white
        bland secrets, now out of sight

        how can daytime be the answer?
        to the people’s climb
        when the sunlight knowingly
        reveals the world’s crimes

  11. Sometimes, the rain is beautiful and immersing. Other times, it’s just taunting and suffocating—and I can understand both feelings. Being cooped up in miserable weather isn’t the greatest joy especially in times where we limit our interactions and follow lockdown restrictions. Very beautiful and vivid in detail, Ivor.

  13. While the “dark clouds and rain” prevail….we can do things to bring the sun, warmth, and joy to others! Being a joy-bringer is contagious! AND it makes us feel good, too! 🙂
    Sometimes the things we have to do (or things we can’t do) are helping others and ourselves. So we abide until we are free to get out and slide again! Ha! 😀 (abide, slide! 😉 )
