Seventy-one Today

I went to a friend’s funeral yesterday afternoon, he was Seventy-one too, and a few weeks ago I went to see him in hospital after he had suffered a bad stroke … He was home alone, and they found him on the floor 3 days after he had the stroke … We went to school together 55 years ago … Last night I was sad and alone with my furry friend Frankie … Today is my 71st birthday, and I am emotionally appreciating life, after suffering 3 strokes of my own in recent times …

  2. Interesting song. It’s a surreal time. My husband is 72. I see him pondering similarly. Aging is an odd process – seems none of us were prepared for it.

    Happy Birthday my friend. I’m so sorry about your loss of your friend. We witness more than we like as we age but we are better for that.   15. Happy birthday to you, Ivor. It always hits hardest when we are the same age as the deceased. But life is for the living. We grieve them and keep on moving forward. I liked the melody of this song but he’s quite the mumbler… 🙂

  20. Happy Birthday my friend. Life is scary — the older you get, the scarier it gets. I am going to be 70 in December. Will I make it? It’s not for me to know. My purpose now is to connect with others and let them know they’re not alone. In their fears, their loves, and their dreams. Including you.

  21. I’ll add you to my list of people I know who share my birthday too Ivor. I have two good friends whose birthday is today. Unfortunately this year we had a planned get together of the three of us but some plans fall away.

  23. Losing a friend is never easy; I’m very sorry for your loss. I am just a couple of months older than you; I hope you enjoyed your 71st. Most days I do not feel my age; other days it slaps me in the face the moment I wake up. They say age is mind over matter; if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. I like that one and hope it brought a smile to your face.

    1. Thank you Nancy (that was my mother-in-law’s name) .. and yes at this stage of my life I am fortunate to be ticking off another year.. my roller coaster doesn’t seem to know where the brakes are 🤗🌏🎉

  24. I am so sorry to hear you lost a good friend. A sad way to go. Memories take us back to other places and times. I am glad you were able to share in his memorial. I am sure Frankie was great comfort for you. You have miles to go before you sleep. my friend! Keep writing! and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  39. Good day, I’m sorry your feeling low. I’m about to turn 83 the first of December. Because I have RA I thought I would never get past the age 75 and yet I’m here and writing more poems then ever. Keep going, keep smiling, and keep writing.
