G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. I don’t know what the answer is, I, too, think it’s a question worth pondering over. It does remind me of that old saying that goes something like: We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

      Maybe it’s a question of the life we want to create?

    I think giving is a result of caring. And if a person can give without caring…I think the act of giving helps them to begin to care. If that makes any sense.

    1. Thank you kindly Carolyn ā€¦ after 30 years of giving and caring, all I knew is that my heart stayed true and I was happy to do what I could and my reward was her golden smile every day šŸ˜€šŸ¤—šŸŒšŸŒžšŸ˜šŸ’•

      5. PS…one of my dear friends…her husband had MS for over 16 years. She was such an amazing caregiver to him! I used to go over to their once a week just to help…and we’d sit and chat, play games, or whatever she wanted to do for a fun-break. She had a male caregiver who came in a couple times a week to help with her husband and that was good.

A very special lady indeed … I was lucky to receive great government support to help me care for Carole and keep her at home… . and many incredible carers during every week, maybe up to 38 hours a week …. Carole’s MS was very servere … but she would smile for all her helpers … šŸ’•šŸ˜šŸ˜€

    1. Thank you Kindly Barbara, and my Coffee House Writers and Go Dog Go Cafe commitment keep me busy, let alone my own writing groups with Geelong Writers … my retirement seems to be full of writing and words …
