Throwback Friday, No Place Like Home

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. I wrote ‘No Place Like Home’ in August 2020, and the poem will be the opening piece in Chapter 7. Memories and Rhymes

No Place Like Home

A sleeping beauty in her nightwear

Pure honesty lived in our home atmosphere

Her truth breathed, the air we shared

Hiding behind white silent doors

They tried to take her from our shores

By nailing her bed to a hospital floor

They heard my stoic voice roar

I told them, they wouldn’t win

“And watch out!! Don’t throw her in

you’ll surely regret your foolish sin

be warned, she’s Circe the Siren”

When I held her sweetness

I believe I touched greatness

And achieved weightlessness

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Thank you kindly Carolyn… they were terribly traumatic times when government medical professionals were trying to take Carole away from my care … in the end I won, and Carole lived another 5 years at home , happy and comfortable …
Oh open mic was fabulous… I recited both pieces in front of a very appreciative capacity crowd 🤗🌏📖💕😃

  2. Lovely poem, Ivor. It’s hard to find the kind of doctor I want. I am going to see a new one this week. I am not looking for orders. I want advice and information. Fingers crossed. Glad you won that battle, Ivor! 🙂

I am glad that you read the poems. They are beautiful. ❤
