An Old Plumber, An Ex-Carer, An Amateur Poet, Words From The Heart
Nature’s Way (a Rhyming Haiku)
Many of you know of my friendship with Derrick Knight … last night his property was lashed by gale force winds and in response to his article about the damage to his wonderful garden, I wrote this Haiku. >> https://derrickjknight.com/2023/12/21/fearing-for-the-weeping-birch/Please Note; All photos reproduced on this post, were taken by Derrick
G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer.
I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

We can only do things to lessen the impact of nature by being more environmentally conscious.
And, despite how nature had proven, time and time again, that, she is, in CONTROL of, everything that’s, happening in the world right now,we humans, still, think we can, defy her, and that is why, Mother Nature is, currently unleashing her WRATH, on us all…
and, until we LEARN how to, RESPECT her, she will, NEVER stop, her WRATH, but unfortunately, we are, too slow to learn, until we see the consequences of our own bad behaviors, coming AT us, in front of our eyes, we simply, don’t, change one bit…
Sorry that Derick’s garden suffered so much damage from Pia! Hope his weeping birch survives. I appreciate your poem and vividly remember Hurricane Ian. We still have some damage and missing street signs over a year later. Mother nature is in charge for sure! β€
Ah, yes! Mother Nature will always have her way.
Just lately, the UK has suffered never ending floods and gales. Laying in bed at night listening to 70 mph winds whip the house and rain hitting the windows has been scary. This morning theyβre down to 45 mph. We are told to expect a very wet and windy Christmas too.
Weβll be having a mild Christmas Day β¦ about 23βC with a shower or two β¦ merry Christmas Sue β¦ I think Iβll be back for the New Year ππππ π
Your haiku is filled with such truth. The photos sad. The song powerful.
Yes, it’s always sad when nature destroys and causes the environment (plants, animals, people, etc.) to suffer. But nature IS in charge. And most people don’t treat nature with any respect, love, responsibility, care, etc. π¦

Mother Nature, we can’t control and we should show her some respect.
Back in the β70s, there was a series of commercials for Chiffon margarine that featured βMother Natureβ and how she could be fooled by the margarine being butter. Her tagline was, βItβs not nice to fool Mother Nature.β
The tagline should be heeded by those who think they can control Mother Nature.

It always seems to me that gardens should be exempt from these things. Unfortunately, Mother Nature doesn’t play favorites. So sorry about the damage.

Let me know what She has to say. I can understand her being upset with us, but her flowers and beauty shouldn’t be bothered.
