Nature’s Lighthouses (a Tanka)

Featured Image Above: The “Lighthouse”, is an illustration by Kerri Costello, which appears in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound” as the introduction image for Chapter 5, Observations, “Until Eyes Hear Sound”. The book contains 10 intriguing Chapters, and Kerri has graciously presented a creative drawing for each Chapter.

I captured these photos about an hour before sunset, and strangely enough, each photo had a diagonal white sunbeam across the images, prompting me to write the ‘Tanka’ below.

Nature’s Lighthouses (a Tanka)

The dazzling sunlight

Ignites the trees’ timid leaves

Into white lanterns

Nature’s neon lighthouses

Showing us the causeway home

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Kerri’s artwork always brings me such joy! 🙂 ❤️
    Gorgeous photos!
What wonderful beautiful inspiration for your uplifting heart-touching poem! 🙂 Your poem title is perfect…and the thought of the sun guiding and guarding us like the light from a lighthouse makes me smile. I will always remember that when I look at the sun from now on. Thank you, Ivor!!!❤️
That song is amazing, too…it brings out deep emotions in me…but, also, makes me feel hopeful about the future. 🙂

    1. Thank you for all your kind and thoughtful words Carolyn … after I viewed how my unique photos turned out, the whole article seemed to combine together like it was meant to be! … oh, and that song from the Glastonbury Music Festival was a lucky find for me … what a wonderful finale song for Carnival!
