Suicide

Suicide

there is a fine line
between pleasure and pain
there are bad moments
between life and death
there is black space
between here and the sun
there is night
when there is no light
and there is only dark
on the other side of the moon

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

      1. So, we can’t pretend to KNOW what these individuals are, going through, therefore, we should not be, commenting on what’s right or wrong, surrounding the, circumstances of the causes of their, suicide.

  1. And then there’s Alaska where in some parts it’s in total darkness 72 days a year and the suicide rate is over the moon. And on the ‘you shouldn’t have quit before the miracle’ side of the coin we are at nearly 10 hours of daylight heading fast towards 24! Excellent write, Ivor.

  2. This is so beautiful, dear Ivor. When someone we know and love takes their own life, we are faced with so many unanswered questions, it’s almost impossible to cope. That’s exactly how suicide victims feel, only multiplied a hundred times. We never know what’s going on in another person’s mind; we cannot judge. Thank you for a gorgeous verse, my friend. 🥰

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful words, Robbie … I wasn’t trying to explain why, I was just imagining the inner pain that they might be experiencing … (my 50-year-old nephew committed suicide a week ago) … 💜😥💔

  3. So powerful, profound, heart-touching.
Many decades ago, one of our nephews (only 21 years old then) died…police said it was either murder or suicide, but probably suicide. It was devastating. I know all of us still deal with it deeply, but especially my brother and my SIL. (his parents) 😦
We can only wonder about what they are feeling…what they have been going through. Some people have said they are “cowards, taking the easy way out”….I say, “No, not that. If we only knew how long many of them carry on in deep pain because they love their family so much. They show bravery and courage for many years. But at some point, life is too much.”
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️
