World Poetry Day, Friday 21st March

It’s not “World Poetry Day” until Friday 21st, but here in Geelong, the Geelong Library held a celebratory event tonight (Wed) … so appropriately, I thought I would repost a poem from my first book, Tullawalla, “Poetry in Motion”

Poetry in Motion

I was searching for words
Maybe the scriptโ€™s lost in celluloid
Iโ€™ve a pile of empty poems
Frustratingly strewn
Here, there and everywhere
But I hear them whispering

โ€œWeโ€™re not finished yet
Do not leave us for dead
Under this thick biblical heap
Please tend to your lost sheepโ€

The mound of poetry pages
Began chanting louder
And I was silently listening
To their distant preaching
But Iโ€™m not that proud
And I quickly lit the gunpowder

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. Relatable, Ivor. My unfinished poems are on a clipboard where I can revisit them… or toss them in the recycling can. I like the gunpowder idea though! ๐Ÿ˜„ โค๏ธ โ˜ฎ๏ธ

  2. What a fabulous day to celebrate! ๐Ÿ™‚ Glad you got to attend that celebration! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, I can relate to your poem…I have so many (too many) poems and stories that will never see the light of day. I probably won’t blow them to smithereens, but no one, other than family, has, or will, ever read them.

    What a powerful, heart-touching song.
