A Silhouette Quote: “The faceless silhouettes seemed to look at each other, as if wishing they could resolve the situation between themselves, without having to trouble their owners.”
― Hernan Diaz, Trust

Statuettes and Silhouettes
Without Indulging in the planet’s regrets
Or wearing any showy epaulets
Our golden sun peacefully sets
Meanwhile
From the shady balconies of the ruler’s minarets
When will our world’s shadowy statuettes
Leave the safety of their bassinets
And unite our twilight’s
Xenophobic silhouettes?

Yes indeed, Beth … but from what my parents told me, I think it was worse during WW II … 😊🌏🌏

Oh, how mind is deeply influenced by our troubled times … it was supposed to be a poem about sunsets and silhouettes, as depicted by my photos, but somehow my words got derailed 😊😍🌏☮️

I read this as I listened to the musical accompaniment, what a powerful presentation!

Thank you very much indeed, Violet … I love trying to find an appropriate song for my poems, and here the ‘Of Monsters And Men’ song was a good find for me, and one I hadn’t heard before 😍😊🌏🎶☮️

Fabulous quote! 🙂
Gorgeous photos! 🙂
Profound, vivid-images, powerful, relevant, heart-touching poem! It has two meanings to me. And I must say…it, also, reminds me that nature is often what gets me through this troubled world and troubling times. Thank you for writing and sharing this poem, Ivor! 🙂
Tears-evoking song. It grabbed my heart. Thank you for sharing it. I’d never heard it before. I will be listening to it again. 🙂

Thank you for your thoughtful comments Carolyn… my poem about sunsets and silhouettes, somehow ended up being a protest poem about ‘statuettes and minarets’ … oh, I was very pleased with how ‘silhouette’ photos turned out … and that was the first time I had heard the ‘Of Monsters And Men’ song too! … 🎶🐶🤗😍🌏💕☮️

Peace can be found in the sunsets, yes. 🌅 The quote ties in nicely with your poem. 👍🏻

Ivor, this feels both elegant and pressing. The contrast of light and shadow deepens its quiet urgency.

Thank you for your very kind comments, David … my poem was inspired by my wonderful photos … and in my poetic statement I tried to capture the political essence of being a silhouette … I’m not sure it worked, and I wanted to include these words …
“Above the crumbling parapets
I see parachutes without silhouettes”
… maybe I’ll revise my poem one day …
