For a While

The poem “For a While” is a refurbished repost from July 1st, last week. I had mistakenly published the poem out of my drafts file without attaching the accompanying images, and music/video …

For a While

I felt her soft hands
for a while
I saw her sweet smile
for a while
She departed this isle
But I still have her sundial

“Carry No Thing” … Syml, Lyrics

Where do we go when the last one falls?
When the sky goes dark and the siren calls
And there ain’t no hope to be had at all
I will carry no thing but my love for you

I figure we got ’bout a hundred days
With the good supplies and the money we saved
But a time to move’s no time to waste
I will carry no thing but my love for you

There will always be a last day for me
When it calls my name, I will answer true
All the good and the bad, I will let it be
And I will carry no thing but my love for you

Where do we run when the levees burst
And an angry god has quenched his thirst?
A storm for the ages, hell on earth
I will carry no thing but my love for you

There will always be a last day for me
When it calls my name, I will answer true
All the good and the bad, I will let it be
And I will carry no thing but my love for you

All the good and the bad, I will let it be
And I will carry no thing but my love for you

Where do we go when the trumpets sound?
When the last day comes and it leaves no doubt
Like some lost gold, leave me underground
I will carry no thing but my love for you
I will carry no thing but my love for you

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

  1. there’s always something we keep, that reminds us of the one who’d been lost, and we hold on to the beliefs, that we will, one day, reunite with the ones we lost in our, lives, that’s what helps us through the, grieving, process.

  2. Aw, so sweet, so heartfelt, so lovely, so encouraging. πŸ’œ One of your bestest poems, Ivor!

No matter how many “a whiles”, it is never long enough. 😦

Those reminders that are tangible, like a sundial, a letter, a fave book, a photo, etc…and those that are not, like memories, their love, their legacy, their impact on us, our shared experiences, etc., are all so important as we live on, make them proud, help others with loss in their lives, and so much more. πŸ™‚

    1. Perfectly said, Violet … I never thought my memories would continue to be so vivid and I never expected myself to be this sort of bloke … but as I am getting older, I think my memory is fading and maybe this is my way of staying connected

  3. Ah! and AW! You found such beautiful photos and the perfect song to go with your amazing poem! The trio, brought tears to my eyes. So heart-touching. As always, I listen to the song while I look at your photos and read your poem. Often that means I will need tissues. (I got a box of Kleenex close by) ( πŸ™‚ )

    1. Oh, thank you for your lovely compliments, Nancy … Syml is an amazing singer/songwriter; SYML is the solo venture of Brian Leseney Fennell (born January 16, 1983), an American musician from Issaquah, Washington. He was previously part of the indie band Barcelona.

      1. His voice is an exceptional instrument, uniquely beautiful. In some ways, he reminds me of the artist you introduced me to a few months ago …. the young man who was transitioning or had completed his gender transitioning …. I’ve forgotten his name but his voice was haunting and memorable. Both artists are filled with great passion and it clearly shows. Thank you for this great gift, my dear friend. πŸ₯°
