Winter Flowers (a Tanka)

Striving for sunlight
Winter blooms know how to catch
And absorb the warmth
From the cloudless icy sky
Without waiting for springtime

The Sigur Rós song “Með Suð Í Eyrum”—which translates to “With a Buzz in Our Ears”—is a poetic and emotionally charged exploration of sensory overload, communal struggle, and the quiet persistence of life’s deeper rhythms.

G'day, and welcome to my blog site. My name is Ivor Steven, I live in Geelong, Australia. I'm an ex-industrial chemist, and a retired plumber, and a former Carer of my wife(Carole), for 30 years, who suffered from severe MS. I Write poetry about those personal thoughts, throughout and beyond my life as a Carer. I've been blogging for over 2 years, and writing poems for 19 years. Of course a lot of my poems are about my favourite subject Carole, but since I've been blogging my writings have become quite varied, humourous, mystical, observational, and even a few monster/horror poems.

    1. Enchanting … that’s lovely, Nancy … I just happened to be watering ‘Theo’ and I saw the sun shining on and through the Bougainvillea flowers and I took the photos and then wrote my little poem … 😍🌏🌞🌼

  1. Yes, winter flowers sure DO know what to do! And I’m so glad! I love the plants and flowers that thrive during winter. 🙂 Bougainvillea is one of my fave flowers!
Gorgeous photos! Lovely poem! Powerful, important song!
Sir Frankie looks like he is enjoying sunbathing on a winter day. Coop always loved to do that. 🙂
(((HUGS))) and ❤️❤️ to you and Frankie! 🙂

    1. Do you mean like my format selection … most of the time my writings just start as lines of thoughts, and I form them into a Haiku format, but then I feel I have more ideas to add … then I start to form a Tanka … but the idea is growing and so I begin forming some stanzas … I really don’t set out to write in any set way, unless I’ve been given a set format to follow …

      1. I notice you have the arrows again next to the link, but didn’t have them last week. I’ve no idea if that makes a difference. You said last week that you’d tried something different?
