Lost, Without a Compass (I’m lost for words)

Here is a poem I wrote 2 years ago after Trumps devisive and undemoncratic tactics during his USA election campaign … but “today” for a different invasion of “injustice” my poem seems to be appropriate again ….

“To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”
Nelson Mandela

“If you want to improve your quality of life and the quality of life for all women, never stop questioning society or calling for change.”
Justina De Pierris

Do Not Quote Me?

This poem is not really a poem, but a poem made from some of my quotes that I have occasionally posted here on my site, and the creating of this collection/poem was prompted by Derrick Knight’s, Feature Image Above >> and you may visit his site via this link >> https://derrickjknight.com/2022/06/24/too-close/

Do Not Quote Me?

“A poet following a poet, gives you poetry in motion”

“The tunnel is growing wider

The light is glowing brighter”

“He who worships from the tallest tree,

should be weary of the broken branches he trod on below”

“Stories emanate from the heart. Literature lives in every heartbeat “

“Not all literature is perfect, none of us are perfect”

Throwback Friday, The Dark Streets, by Ivor Steven — Go Dog Go Café

I wrote this interesting poem back in November 2018, and my words from four years ago seem to be still very pertinent to the war situation in the Ukraine at the moment … “I’ve been listening to The Waterboys songs lately, their lyrics are meaningful and their music is always dramatic. In this following piece […]

Throwback Friday, The Dark Streets, by Ivor Steven — Go Dog Go Café

New Born Lambs

New Born Lambs

Here, on the edge of suburbia

Wide bitumen rivers

Plough through barren fields

On nearby deserted hills

Giant man made towers pierce the clouds

The midday winter sun

Forgot to open her eyes

And failed to warm

The frost bitten land

Where new born lambs

Tremble and struggle to stand

Here, I silently search

For her guiding hand

While passionately waiting

For Mother Nature’s last command

Swallowed by The Sun (Revised)

On a fiery hot suburban street

Cobblestones are melting the crowd’s feet

Bursting blisters, of the ignorant

Burning souls, in the innocent

Ultraviolet rays are scorching everyone

Our world is being swallowed by the sun

Oh, what have us human’s done

All the rivers are running dry

Fish lay on barren land, wanting to die

Polar icebergs are often seen gliding by

Penguins are moaning without their icy slides

And you’ll hear the baby whales cry

As the ocean, sadly waves us goodbye

Our Angel’s wings are singed and cannot fly

Old mother earth is quickly going awry

And father time is forever asking why

There Will Be An Answer

The Featured Image above was taken by Derrick Knight, and when I viewed his heartwarming photo of the foal peacefully sleeping on the grass, my mind was immediately inspired to write words, and after numerous attempts to create something worthy of Derrick’s beautiful photo, I eventually produced this poem “There Will Be An Answer” … and my poem is to be read by pretending that you are the “foal’s” thoughts … You may visit Derrick’s article by clicking on this Link >>

There Will Be An Answer

All the world is green

Within my midday dream

Please, do not disturb me

Let me sleep, let me be

Let it be, let it be

I do not comprehend

Your unnatural trends

Of killing your neighbours

After kicking in their sacred doors

Do not listen to me

Hear the breeze among the trees

There, under nature’s ancient marquee

She wisely decrees

Live in harmony like the bees

Co-existence is free

Let it be, let it be

Welcome to Go Dog Go Cafe’s Haibun Wednesday!

What exactly is Haibun?

Autobiographical poetic prose accompanied by haiku.

Bruce Ross

In his old age Basho, who may be credited with establishing the haiku form, undertook a long journey to the remote regions of northern Japan, fully expecting to die before completing it. He did complete the journey, and his record of it has become a classic of world literature and an example, in the broadest sense, of haibun, autobiographical poetic prose accompanied by haiku.
Journey to the Interior, American Versions of Haibun, Edited by Bruce Ross

Writer’s guide…

Some things to keep in mind when writing haibun:

  • The range of haibun is broad and frequently includes autobiography, diary, essay, prose poem, and travel journal.
  • A haibun is a combination of prose and haiku.
  • The prose is brief and simple and usually written in the present tense.

Imagination (revised)

We walked pass the ‘Imagination Garden Kindergarten & Childcare’ centre this morning, and I was reminded of this poem I wrote in August 2020, when the building was being constructed. All the photos in my post here today were taken this morning at the “Imagination” centre ..

Imagination (revised)

Boldly, the sign “Imagination” is written on the wall

The silent gift of creativety that is given to us all

Imagination looks beyond the distant horizon

To where a blue sky unites the oceans

Imagination looks above the gathering dark clouds

To where a golden sun dispels all doubts

Imagination looks inside the essence of nature

To where a nurtured animal instinct matures

Imagination looks outside the boundaries of mankind

To where a human mind can roam unconfined

And peacefully co-exist nonaligned
