The midnight bell sweetly chimed
And I saw a bright silver moon
Soon dawn opened my sleepy eyes
And I saw a glowing golden sun
The old alarm did not ring
Arising early is no longer the thing
Today I’m another year older
Sixty-nine years upon my shoulders
Time has worn my aching back
And every ageing bone goes crack
But isn’t there a crack in everything
That’s how the new morning light gets in
