Throwback Friday, Bedroom Fireplace

Today’s Throwback poem was my first attempt at writing a ‘Pantun’ poem format. Originally written in October 2018

Pantun :
In its most basic form, the pantun consists of a quatrain which employs an abab rhyme scheme. A pantun is traditionally recited according to a fixed rhythm and as a rule of thumb, in order not to deviate from the rhythm, every line should contain between eight and 12 syllables.

Bedroom Fireplace

Oh wondrous lounge-room fireplace
Your winter-time sparkling crackle
Glows upon our old desire’s embrace
Reciting words of trust, beyond our burnt shackles

Oh wondrous bed-room fireplace
Your winter-time warming flame
Narrates tales of our revere and grace
Flickering words of love, beyond our given name

Nuzzling and Guzzling (a Novem)

Frankie sleeping on my feet … Frankie waiting … Frankie guzzling coffee

A ‘novem’ is a poem format consisting of four-syllable, three-word tercets in which the positioning of the disyllabic word is different on each line.

All gone! … a dry plate

Nuzzling and Guzzling (a Novem)

(Night)

…..He lies asleep
…..There, cozy warm
…..Upon my feet

(Morning)

……….He waits calmly
……….For breakfast and
……….Walkies to come

(Afternoon)

……………He has coffee
……………To guzzle up
……………Licking it dry

(Sweets) … an extra stanza, just for fun!

He Loves Cheesecake
The crusty bit
Under the sponge

Destination

My poem ‘Destination’ is a “Writing between the lines” exercise for the May gathering of our Dome Poets group here in Geelong. I chose Leonard Cohen’s poem, ‘The Goal’ (attached below my poem), for my attempt to write a poem between each of his lines!

Over at Weekly Prompts, the Weekend Challenge is: Departure. Please visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here.
Between here and there, “Destination” is a part of Departure

Destination, by Ivor Steven

The curtains are open
The front door is ajar
So, I can hear her sing
From her distant star

I do not own much
My soul is a gold mine
I haven’t lost my touch
My heart is kind

I share what I have
I have hope and love
Couldn’t stop the flood
Couldn’t hold her glove

I walk alone
I look content
Regrets are few
Despair ferments

I push on and on
I do not complain
I’m still alive
I’m numb to the pain

No one asks
No one knows
About finality
Under the snow

===========================

“The Goal”, by Leonard Cohen

I can’t leave my house
Or answer the phone
I’m going down again
But I’m not alone

Settling at last
Accounts of the soul
This for the trash
That paid in full

As for the fall, it
Began long ago
Can’t stop the rain
Can’t stop the snow

I sit in my chair
I look at the street
The neighbor returns
My smile of defeat

I move with the leaves
I shine with the chrome
I’m almost alive
I’m almost at home

No one to follow
And nothing to teach
Except that the goal
Falls short of the reach

Throwback Friday, The Woman In Me

Me, sitting on Mum’s knee. … L to R, Carole, Aunties Elizabeth & Pearl, & Grandma

Grandma, and her 3 daughters. … My mum (left) and her lady relatives

G’day readers, It’s Friday morning here in Australia, the day after my mother’s birthday and Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Today’s Throwback Friday poem is, from September 2019.

The Woman In Me

Inside every man

There is a woman

The mother of his soul

The lady of his heart

The kindness in his touch

The passion in his blood

The woman who fostered

The way he shows love

Centenarians

At ‘The Dunes’ cafe/restaurant, Ocean Grove, near Mum and Dad’s old family home, “Tullawalla”.

Centenarians

Today

We had a family remembrance party

For our dear departed parents

They were both born in 1924

One hundred years ago!

Today

We gathered to celebrate

Their love and loyalty for each other

And to proudly honour

The love and incredible support

We all unconditionally received

Our chaotic world will wait

The Tree Roots Of Our Homes

A poem that was prompted by my doggie ‘Frankie’, who seemingly, trotted off too far away during our walkie this morning. He was enjoying being off his lead, then he turned around to see where I was and suddenly realised he was “Too far away” and he came running back to me … that sense of ‘Home and Love’ was a gorgeous moment to savour … Hopefully, my photos captured those moments.

The Tree Roots Of Our Homes

How far, is too far?

Too far away from home

Too far away from love

Love does not grow on trees

Love grows inside trees

Love flows down

Down inside the tree roots

The tree roots of our homes

The tree roots that enwrap our earth

The tree roots that capture our souls

Deep and Deeper?

The inspiration behind my philosophical poem, came from two fellow blogger’s articles today … please visit their fabulous sites by clicking the links below >

Deep and Deeper?

while afloat we keep seeking

and building boats that keep leaking

time sails by and we keep weeping

I often wonder how deep

humanity’s knowledge is

yet unseen …

how deep are our oceans

yet unseen …

how deep is the universe

yet unseen …

how deep is humanity’s love

for one another

yet unseen …

Her Last Rainbow (a Haiku)

This months poetry assignment at Coffee House Writers is to read the traditional Japanese writer, Matsuo Basho’s 10 top Haiku, and then try to write a Traditional style Haiku. I think my Haiku here might get me a ‘pass’ for the assignment …

Her Last Rainbow (a Haiku)

Etched upon greyness

Behind fluffy nimbus clouds

Her last rainbow glowed
