Throwback Friday, Time In A Turbulent Sea, by Ivor Steven

A poem I wrote in early February 2019, while recovering from my third stroke. I have slightly revised a few words, and altered the title – originally “Time and the Sea”

Time In A Turbulent Sea

My time, weeks, days, and hours have gone

My time, between one procedure and the next

Time to explore this healing castle

Time to write about realities and dreams

Time to chat to eager listeners

Time to observe the people living within

Time to think about the world’s problems

Time to visualise pictures of tomorrow

I am not a patient in his bed

I am free-standing and waiting instead

I am a walking and talking local poet

I am not allowed to vacate the site

They want me near, to study my plight

They want me here, to secure my bed

They need me near, to look into my mind

They need me here, so I am easy to find

Solstafir – Midaftann, Translated Lyrics

Mid-Evening

Now I have come home

After a journey on the deep seas.

The wave was so high,

The saltiness ate everything up.

I drowned in a black hole,

I pulled at the hand of death.

So high, it was so high,

And the moon lighted a path, yes the moon high in the sky,

And the moon lighted a path, yes the moon lighted a path.

So high, so high, wave of the sins, wave of the sins.

There, on the “B”side

Of her undiagnosed moon

Lay my empty spoon

Words For You

A poem from before my Tullawalla booklets, before I began my blog/website, before I had a computer, before I had a typewriter, and when I wrote my words with a 2HB pencil into a blue line exercise book. I do not have an exact date for the poem, but the piece was probably written during early 2003.

Words for You

A book of words for you

From me

Perhaps not all that true

May be?

They could bring you smile

You’ll see

Some sorrow for a while

That’s me

Dreams and thoughts of you

The inner me

From my mind, it’s what I do

You’ll see

Clear Blue Jar

A poem I originally wrote back in January 2018

Clear Blue Jar

Laying here looking above

Staring toward the sky

Wondering why

Why is our sky blue?

How do we perceive hues?

And why say “feeling blue”

When it’s not true

The blue I see

Is no one’s fool

So why fool with me

Seeing every new face

Has your forever smile

Yours on every dial

Like yesterday’s last mile

Doing your time in style

Smiling faces, new and old alike

Beaming, even from afar

Smiling at my new life

My life in a clear blue jar

Featured Image:  Taken of the clear blue sky, using a Samsung Galaxy S5.

Glassy Eyed

Celebrating the 50th year of Bell Park Cricket Club last night. Fifty years of memories and everlasting friendships.

Glassy Eyed

Saturday evening

The midnight hour

Whizzed by

Unbeknown

To the celebrating crowd

My friends are overly generous

And continue to make sure

My schooner is always full

I was keeping count

But that foolish tally

Is now nullified

And I am highly rarified

Sunday morning

Seven hours later

I am feeling brittlely vitrified

And glassy eyed

Were Her Eyes Olive or Hazel?

Following my loss

During the chaos

In the quiet intermissions

Tears would blur my visions

But clearness of sight did not even matter

Whether or not she had olive or hazel eyes

The closing curtain was already in tatters

I heard her eyes laugh, I felt them cry

And then I saw them die

Special Announcement: Today I have a “Copy” of “Our” new book Perceptions for me to proofread on the weekend

Off-white

White moon and white mushrooms

White doggie and white clouds

Here my writer’s world is a chromatic lamplight

After the passing of my gracious Aphrodite

Now I dream tonight

About the earth’s broken stalactites

And how the atmosphere is turning a sickly off-white

Like a grubby plastic skylight

Now with foresight

My tethered “Itmims” craft is ready and watertight

And awaits her saviours next spaceflight

“Itmims” Ivor’s Time Machine In Micro Space
