I Am Tree

Over at Weekly Prompts, the Weekend Challenge is the word: Why. You may visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here
Featured Image Above: A photo taken by Derrick Knight, >> https://derrickjknight.com/2023/10/27/autumn-has-arrived/ and again he has kindly given me permission to reproduce his intriguing photo, here on my poetry site … and I am always asking myself, Why?

I Am Tree

I am the one

Leaning against the sands of time

I am the one

Binding the earth together

I am the one

Delivering clean air to all

I am the only one!

Do not slaughter me

Like another one of

Mankind’s maniacal genocides

Please regenerate me

Before all of my ashes

Are swept out to sea

Deep and Deeper? (revised)

A poem I wrote back in April, a piece that did not make the final list in my new book “Until Eyes Hear Sound”, oh damn … maybe one for my next Book! … Anyhow, my poem seems appropriate for the world’s current happenings and dramatic events

Deep and Deeper?

while afloat, we keep seeking

and building boats that keep leaking

time sails by, and we keep weeping

I often wonder how deep

humanities knowledge is

yet unseen …

how deep are our oceans

yet unseen …

how deep is the universe

yet unseen …

how deep is humanities love

for one another

yet unseen …

Who Is in Command?

“Time Is On My Side”

Who Is in Command?

Spring sunshine

Dominates the sky

Nature’s warmth

Becalms my unsettled mind

Yesterday’s problems

Have blown over

And diffused toward

Today’s blue horizon

Time! is on my side,

hears no commands,

and takes no passengers.

Time Takes No Passengers

Throwback Friday, Shadows Fall (a Musette)

Today I am presenting another poem that will be appearing in my new book “Until Eye Eyes Hear Sound”. The ‘Musette’ is also a relatively new poem format for me, (thank you to Ryan, >> https://daysofstone.com/, for introducing me to the Musette format), and “Shadows Fall” is a poem I wrote in February 2023, and it will be an exciting piece in the ‘Others’ section of Chapter 10. Short Poems: Haiku, Senryu, Tanka, and Others

Shadows Fall (a Musette)

Don’t stop

Do not look back

Leaves drop

Shadows

Do not create

Meadows

Walk tall

Don’t look beyond

Nightfall

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

My “Quote” was inspired by Arlene’s lovely article ‘On Writing’
>> https://arlene1956.wordpress.com/2023/08/20/on-writing/

Why Do We Write? (a Quote)

“The world caresses our eyes

every day until we die.

We write to arouse idle mind’s

and soothe hearts with our soulful finds” … Ivor Steven

Birds in Flight

The Weekend Challenge from Weekly Prompts is the word: OLD. Please go over and visit their fabulous site by clicking on >> Here

This morning I luckily managed to take several bird in flight photos using my “Old” Apple iPhone. Of course, I had to enhance and enlarge them, but fortunately, a few of the photos came out ok, and subsequently, with excited enthusiasm I wrote this poem “Birds in Flight”.

Birds in Flight

Our spirit birds sleep all night

Then emanate at first light

To resume their dedicated flights

Our watchtower sentinels of Mother Earth

Who sacredly ascend at first light

Forever in flight, since nature’s worldly birth

Throwback Friday, Birds on Wires (July 2010), by Ivor Steven

At “Go Do Go Cafe” earlier today …
>> https://godoggocafe.com/2023/02/10/throwback-friday-birds-on-wires-july-2010-by-ivor-steven/

Last month I posted a poem on my website which was also Titled “Birds on Wirds”, however my Throwback poem from July 2010 is completely different, and in keeping with my poetic theme about birds lately I thought It would be appropriate to repost my first “Birds on Wires” poem here today …

Birds on Wires (July 2010)

Here on the edge of lower earth

Beyond the urban concrete girth

Withering trees are trying to grow

Reaching for that mystical power flow

Hungering for energy from contaminated ground

Not the airwaves of false sonic sound

Man-made arrows cluttering  the sky

Unnatural webs soaring high

Bird dodging spires

Hanging on cold steel wires

Carriers of these modern times

The pulse of humanities crimes
