Two Dawns in the One Day

Featured Image: Dawn is peeking through my window on the plane. The above 2 images are my nighttime photos from my seat.

It’s now officially 24 hours since I woke up on Wednesday at 5.10 am, to begin my journey of travelling half way around the world. Wow … and still 6 hours travel time to go before I get to my cousins place on Vancouver Island
The buttocks are starting to really ache.
But not to worry, here I am writing words on my website.
Today’s trip has steadfastly confirmed that I do not sleep well on planes

However, how things have changed since my last international flight 6 years ago. I have inflight WiFi and I think the food is betterer,or is it because this time I am flying with Air New Zealand. And damn, the guy sitting next to me has just slept 6 hours straight.

An Ice Cream Cone

An Ice Cream Cone

I’m flying up, against gravity’s undertow
Higher than all the birds I know
Above white clouds full of snow

My wings are made of steel and bone
And within this long underbelly I am not alone
As we burst through the wind’s vibration zone
Then out of the blue I am handed an ice cream cone

Transition

Transition

The daedal grey clouds hang motionless
There is not a breath of wind in the calmness
And the gliding birds look weightless

The afternoon sun remains inactive
Slumbering behind the sky’s silvery curtain

And there is a swelling aura of expectation
From the amazed audience standing at the station
All waiting for the beginning of the pilgrim’s mission

Tired, Wrinkled, and Wordless

Tired, Wrinkled, and Wordless

I’m too tired to wiggle my toes
And pack my wrinkled clothes
I’m wordless at the moment
My thoughts are on postponement

I twist and roll over
Music wiggles inside my head
My somersault of dreams
Wrinkles my bedspread
Upside down
Tiredness falls out of my seams
Words tumble around
Nameless titles and endless tunes abound

A new moon’s brewing
Singing the blues,
Over my empty town
I twist and roll over again
I’m back where I started,
I hear my angel humming, Hallelujah

Today’s Test Flight

Today, we gave ourselves a ‘Test Flight’ to the Cafe to see if my wings had recovered, and pleasingly, we navigated the outing without any major incidents.

Today’s Test Flight

Flying solo above the trees
Fluttering through the Bon Voyage clouds

Zipping over the nearby You Yangs
Out into the Southern Aurora sky

Then, across the world’s deepest ocean
Toward my dream’s mystical horizon

This is how my poem looks on my Instagram Site (ivors20)

Throwback Friday, Birds in Flight

A Welcome Swallow in flight

This morning on my walkie with Frankie, I was lucky enough to photograph a ‘Welcome Swallow’ in flight. So, appropriately, today’s Throwback Friday poem is “Birds in Flight”, written in February 2023. The poem also appears in my book, ‘Until Eyes Hear Sound’ (Chapter 1, page 14)

Birds in Flight

Our spirit birds sleep all night
Then emanate at first light
To resume their dedicated flights

Our watchtower sentinels of Mother Earth
Who sacredly ascend at first light
Forever in flight, since nature’s worldly birth
