Over 30 local independent writers gathered under one roof- what better way to spend a Sunday morning in January than a trip out to the beautiful Barwon Heads

About the Event

The Book Reality Experience presents the 2nd Annual Indie Author Summer Book Fair, which celebrates stories from children’s books through to horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and every genre in between. We can’t wait to welcome you to this one-day event filled with over 30 Author Exhibits, providing you with the opportunity to talk directly with independently published authors… some of whom will become your new favourites.

Talking to a Restless Moon

On this scorching afternoon
I spoke to a restless moon
He said,
“The sky’s blue balloon
has been treacherously harpooned
by a scary orange buffoon
who openly sucks on his own dirty silver spoon
and be warned, no one is immune”

Since then, I’ve been lying low
But soon I’ll need to leave my hot bungalow
And fly forward to a safer and cooler tomorrow

Who are the matchstick makers?
Who are the dictators?
Who are the takers?

Who is flying south?
Who is flying off at the mouth?

Who is to release the East?
From the unpoliced wild beast

Where are the high priests?
Are we being fleeced?
Piece by piece

How can peace ever be unleashed?
While heartless bastards feast
On our poor bakers’ yeast

Togetherness

I remember
Bringing you two into my house
And quietly I sat with you
Upon my courtyard bench
You were both
Dry and lifeless

I lovingly prepared your beds
And gently tucked you two in
Wishing you a bright and prosperous future
Under my watchful eye
Together you flourished and adorned my home
And together your arms reached out
Embracing each other
Now, we live here together as one

For two thousand and twenty-five
My celebratory sunset
Contrives to stay alive
Blessing the twilight sky
With clouds of golden knives
That stunningly silhouetted
