Nature’s Windy Thunder-dome

Today, I’m cosily inhabiting home
Sheltering from Nature’s windy thunder-dome
Here, with Frankie and Alex, the garden gnome

Everything outside is turning monochrome
And it is too dangerous to sail at the aerodrome

And the spinnaker pulling us west
Our journey around the world
Will be an expeditious adventure
Navigating our way over polluted oceans
And above war-ravaged ground

That our planet is, water, green, and round

One Day, the Wild Wind Will Stop

We are back from our morning walkies
And Frankie is recovering on the lounge suite
He’s worn out from the blustery battering
By the gales that have been blowing all week

I ask Frankie
“When will these wild winter winds stop”
“Don’t ask me! You’re the one
with the fancy Computer”

Jolted by Frankie’s sarcastic remark,
I looked at the weather forecast
“Yeah, apparently the windy conditions
are going to moderate a little tomorrow”
“That’s good. Then I’ll be able to hear you
when you call me to come back”

He nods and smiles, recalling his sheepish excuse
for wandering off this morning
and did not return when I called him.
“Never mind Frankie, one day soon,
the wild wind will stop”
And slyly, he gives me that innocent doggie look!

Gale Force

Nature is huffing and puffing again
Gustily blustering across the plains
Wild enough to blow a dog off a chain

The final blast of winter’s cold gales
Is hammering the air with invisible nails
Wild enough to bow the feathers on a bird’s tail

I’m leaving this land of lost grace
And flying off into space
It’s time to run away
My airship, ITMIMS*, is leaving today

Love is a stowaway in the heart
And love needs a head start
Somewhere in this universe
There’s love in the shepherd’s purse

A Cascade of Light and Rain

In the blink of an eye
The overcast sky jolted open
And through the neon crack
Beams of golden sunlight
Cascaded over the dark clouds

Momentarily
That was the calm before the storm
And without delay
The Heavy rain blew in
And began tumbling down

I’m feeling “uneasy” about trying to link my poem to their ‘Prompt’, but I must say it is, “not easy” to capture a photo of a Dragonfly in flight, they are very swift little critters! I was very lucky that the dragonfly hovered in front of me just at the right moment.

Happy Wings (a Tanka)

Birds and dragonflies
Nearly close enough to touch
For my eyes only
Hovering, wings fluttering
Pleasantly fanning my brow
